I might jump and buy a 1986 rx7 in france where i live....the compression on both rotors are 8, 8.2, taken cold. What can i check when i try the car ? it's only 70 000 miles

I think they are 1st tion with the 12 a engine (it's not an fc 2nd gen or an fd 3 rd gen)

If it's kg/cm^2 as described in the manual then it's in really good shape. 8 kg/cm^2 is about 113 psi.
When doing a test drive, park the car after it has reached operating temperature then wait a few minutes before starting it again. If it can start easily while still warm compression is good.
If you want to keep the car original, there may not be a lot of parts to make it like a new car, but there are ways to use newer engine parts to keep it running.
I think most important is to check for rust. The interior metal in front of the rear wheels is a good place to start.
