1985 Rx7 Gsl Need It Running

Hey there im new to the rotary world but i got myself a '85 rx7 gsl that ive restored almost all the body work and now just getting it to run. Ive replaced all the fluids, filters, etc. And also replaced entire suspension but wont get into that now.

My problem is the car bogs and dies and wont idle. on occasion itll idle when the choke is on and when the engine is warm but otherwise it just dies. I was told by a friend mechanic i needed a piece called a "shutter valve" or something along those lines, but was told there very expensive my other option he said was to remove the "rats Nest" or emissions stuff.

Any ideas? Also if anyone has a step by step procedure to remove the emissions that would be great, im pretty mechanic literate just new to the rotary and carb engines.

PS. I also have the oppotunity to purhase the full racing beat intake manifold holley carb setup and also headers for an amazingly low price should i buy it?

Here's the link to the rats nest removal. http://www.ten15.net/Maz.tutorials/ . Read through it before you actually do it. It seems confusing the first time you read it, but READ IT ANYWAY, and most importantly, DON'T BE INTIMIDATED by the appearance of dificulty. It's really quite simple once you get into doing it. Just make sure you have all the parts required before starting and follow each step in order. If you hit a snag, there's plenty of people on here that have done it and have the answers.

As far as the intake and exhaust, YES, you should buy it. You really can't go wrong with it, and it makes the removal of emissions easier. Also, with the header and intake, you won't need the block off plates the write up calls for.

It sounds to me like your idle issue is all vaccume.
Good luck
Brian
P.S. Don't forget to look at the first gen faq page in the archives.

Plug the hose going from the shutter valve to the air cleaner with an appropriately sized bolt. No more vacuum leak from that.

Check the hose detailed in this thread.

Sounds like a textbook case of vacuum leak to me. I highly recommend pulling the rats nest and plugging everything. Not only will it make life simpler, it will look better and free up a few horses hidden in there. If you have any questions email me at BeenJaminJames(at)live(dot)com, thats also my im handle on windows messenger I can answer all your questions.
