1985 Model Air Vent

The vent on my drivers side has a broken actuator arm. This is the arm that closes the vent and/or switches it over to the fan. Mine got stuck and i forced it and broke it. My vent now is always open, which really sucks in the winter. How do i take it out to fix the broken arm? Please don't tell me i have to pull the whole dash!

You don't need to remove the dash but you do need to replace the air vent and these can be hard to find in good shape.

The vent unit just pries out of the dash and the replacement will press in.

Watch ebay, they come up once in awhile.

Ahh yes this does suck bad, the same thing happened to my car. So far I'm pretty sure the dash will have to be pulled out at least a little bit. I don't see any other way around it, that vent flap and arm is too big to get out with the dash bolted in.
Ray he's not talking about the colored vent, it's the flapper door and arm mechanism behind the vent.

I read somewhere you can manually close it. Rather than pull the dash, i think ill try that.

Yeah that's what I've been doing lol, sometimes during driving it will fall back open. Do I carry a pencil in my console and just pull over on the side of the road, snap the vent out if the dash, stick the pencil in the hole and push the flapper back up, snap the vent back in the dash and head back on the road. I've been debating putting a black sock in there lol.

Ventilator

It's been a long time so don't ask for more details, but these pictures might help.
