1985 Mazda RX7 GSL
I need to find out what cars other than an actual 1985 rx7 has the same control module for the ignitionl. I just bought the car and have to replace one of the control modules in order to get it back to indiana. I'm going to junk yards tommrow to try and find one, but i'm not sure what other cars if any have the same module i need? any help will be much appreciated

is that the same thing as ignitor? it is a j-109 ignitor any model should have it between 81-85...83-85 to be in the safe side (there's 1 year they had a diff. dizzy and the ignitors where j-105 but can't remember if it was 80 or 81)
they are hard to find tho, hopefully you'll luck out at the junk yards, some forum members have them for sale used, (new i think they're atleast 100+ bucks) usually between 20-60 bucks used.
If nothing else, you can go to autozone w/e and ask for a GM 4 prong ignitor (usually found in 70's chevy's in case the person at register is being a total dick) they're about 17 bucks each. Set your working ignitor to your leading side, and on the trailing follow this link http://www.needfulthings.net/cgi-bin...ST;f=77;t=1511 you will need some wire, mounting plate, quick connects, pliers, heat sync grease(sometimes you get a pack of it with the ignitor, but it won't hurt to have extra), a couple of bolts and nuts, wire strippers, and somewhere to mount your mounting plate lol......this works as a quick fix in case you can't find any j-109's and you need to move your car fast. plus it will get you started so that you can do the DLDFI system if you want to ...if you need pics let me know.

If your running on the leading only, the car will run fine but no tach. If your running on the trailing only, the car will run like crap and have no power but the tach will work. You can find some guys around here with good used ones any where between $20 to $50 bucks each.

For all those that posted that a 85 will run with just the leading ignitor-

It's the 81-83 that will run with just the leading ignitor.

Since you didn't say where you've broke down, post in the regional forum where you're at now. Hopefully someone local can help you out. Paying new price is absurd, converting to the GM HEIs may be more work than you want to do the road. In a pinch, it may be possible to move/jumper the tach/fuel pump wire, (yellow w/green stripe) from the - side of the trailing to the - side of the leading coil. Simpler option would be to jumper the fuel pump relay under the dash so the pump is always on when the key is on. That should give you fuel but no tach.
There is a thread on how to jumper the 'evil relay'. Try searching the archives first for 'evil relay/ fuel pump relay', then this sub forum.
Here's a link to the online FSMs. Wiring diagram is in the 85 FSM, Sec 50, diagram B-1, page 50 :14.
