Talking 1985 GSL-SE...just picked up in Dallas

After 7 years of being without a rotary and 12 years since my previous GSL-SE I had to buy another one. I had been looking for about a year and a half for a nice one owner GSL-SE and I was a bit surprised to see the price trends but once I started the long drive home it was worth the wait. It just crossed the 96,000 mile mark on the way home from Dallas and I shot a few pics after the first bath. It still has its original Koito headlights after 22 years. This car has the cloth seats and even the A/C blows cold. It just had a service done at the local Mazda dealer in Dallas and the compression numbers look pretty decent.

It needs a set of tires and I plan to install one of my 15x7 zero offset Enkei 92 black mesh wheels and while I would prefer a p225/50/15 it seems from some of the threads that a 205/55/15 or a 215/50/15 would work best. Any thoughts?

Here are some pics:

It was serviced at Hancock Mazda in Mesquite, Tx. and the compression numbers were:

Rotor # 1: 8.4, 7.8, 8.1
Rotor # 2: 8.5, 9.0, 8.5

The owner lived about three miles from Dallas Love Field.

The only thing that could be better is if I had bought this car In Southern California with its blue plates still on it! Better yet it would be better still if I could relocate all of my cars and myself to SoCal.

My favorite blue, too. I'd probably replace my 3 FBs with that car.

How much $$$, if you don't mind my asking?

nice car!!

205/55/15 is the size that most closely matches outside diameter of the GSL-SE stock tire 205/60/14, and is what I run on mine.

Zero offset on an SE? I don't think it would look good imo. (+40 is about right)

Beautiful. I was thinking about getting that one if it was on ebay a few months ago. But mine is pretty close to that condition anyways. God bless, welcome back to the rotary scene.

If I don't part with the wheels my friend may part with his. I will post some pics of his slumbering '84 GSL-SE. The pics were taken at his house and at the top of the driveway under a car cover sits his silver w/ red leather interior GSL-SE.

The original owner would not negotiate below $5,000. Although he did have the car serviced just before I was due to pick it up and that receipt totaled $600.

That seems to be the size I keep coming back to for this FB. I will have to swap another set of 15x7 ARE mesh wheels from my '78 280Z in order to see what it would look like. The tires on those wheels are 225/50/15 which might look fun for the camera.

Nice color combination. Hemmings Exotic and Sports Cars did an article on the GSL-SE awhile back and the feature car was the silver with gray interior.

The funny thing is they pegged the value of these cars to a high of about $5,000? About a month later the silver with red cloth interior GSL-SE showed up on ebay and zoomed right past $12,000.

BTW,
Does anyone know if the Mazda dealer can access the build date and maintenance history? With my Nissan's the dealer is able to access a database known as Nissan Service Comm which gives the actual build date, selling dealer, PDI date and retail selling date. Since I don't have the window sticker I thought it would be a good thing to have something like the Nissan Service Comm printout.
