1985 GSL-SE Floods while running
Hello RX7 gurus,
I am trying to troubleshoot an '85. The car runs great except on occasion the engine will just cut out while driving at highway speeds.
I let the SE idle yesterday while doing another task nearby. The car was idling normal for about 15-20 minutes when it died and wouldn't restart immediately. I immediately pulled both spark plugs on front rotor and checked each for spark. Good spark on both, but unburned fuel shot from the cylinder and the lower plug was wet with fuel. Plugs are a dark brown color, good, but maybe engine is running slightly rich. Engine restarted and ran normal after cranking all fuel out of cylinder.
The car also floods and dies while driving around town and on the highway. The engine also stumbles in between 1,000-2000 rpms, most noticeable when deaccelerating right at 1,500 rpm. Anyone else have this problem?
It is my understang that this car has had this problem since it was bought new from the dealer in '85. I also understand this is common on the '85. What's the real problem?
Also, my crappy chilton's manual says BR7EQ-14 plugs for both cylinders. Jeff20B says BUR7 and BUR9--which goes into the upper and lower?
Thanks!
