1985 Gs

Hi, I just joined and would like your opinions on what I should do with my car. Should I part it out, sell it as is, or keep it and put money into it (but being a college student makes this a little more difficult). I just had a new clutch put in and it has 124,000 miles. It’s got a little rust and it needs painted. That’s really all I know other then everything else is stock. I will post some pics either later today or tomorrow. Any help until then and after would be appreciated. Thanks

why do you wanna get rid of it? :P, is there something wrong with it? if you like the car then it's always worth putting money into it, but if you don't then....i'm just confused about why you're asking this? are you worried about reliability? they're not expensive if you take care of it man . . .

Well its not that i want to get rid of it but there are some things wrong with it. When i take off it will die unless i have the choke out all the way even when it is warm, no power steering which wouldn't be a big deal if my choke would stay out, the windows are out of alignment, and just a bunch of little stuff that if i had the time and more importantly the money i could fix pretty easily.

check for a vacuum leak, i'm pretty sure you have one. i understand its hard to find time sometimes with school and all. otherwise you could always just post this on the for sale section, and it depends, what model? year? is it. but i believe that some of the people in here could not do much with a first gen parts, so you'll probably be better off selling it as it is, idk. people often look for gsl-se parts, or 2nd gen parts. besides it's always good to sell them and maybe someone else can revive this babies

Check your fuel filter, chances are it hasn't been touched in awhile and is clogged giving you poor fuel delivery, hence your engine dying out on you when fuel demand rises. Do a full tune up, plugs, wires, cap rotor, flush your fluids. Find the de-emission tutorial on www.mazspeed.com. That will allow you to remove alot of your emissions hoses that are possible vacuum leaks. Less things that can go wrong, less chance something will go wrong. This is cheap enough that once finished you should have a decent idea of what it will take to keep the car up. And don't worry about the manual steering and window alignment. your arms will get a workout and my drivers window has always had problems, just guide it up with your hand. It's a small price to pay. Good luck.

This is hardly an unbiased crowd to ask.

There are cheaper more reliable modes of transportation than a 25 yr old sports car, if that’s what you want or need.

You neither have to love working on cars, love driving it on the road or track, or be nuts.
Being all 3 is norm around here.

Rust can be a real PITA. Remember there is no frame.
The engine is deceptively simple, but different than a V8.
Parts will become harder to get, you have to mail/web order the good ones.
