1984 sanden ac compressor oil capacity.

I'm looking for the oil capacity of a sanden compressor from 1984. I can't find it online, and all service manuals available to me are nearly 100% silent on the subject of a/c.

A little help please? I intend to use ester oil.

I found on a sanden PDF that the 506-508 SD series pumps (which I believe the rx7 has) is a 135 CD system roughly 4.56 oz. It also gave a 3.3%-8% oil in the freon.

However, even at full refridgerent capacity of 25 oz (r12) 8% of 25 oz is only 2oz of oil...

A few years ago I contacted a moderator at ackits with that question.
Got 6.2 oz oil/22-25 oz R12 for the Sanden 507/Rx-7.
I've used that amount on 3 cars without any problems. They were all Sanden 507's. I didn't consider the oil/refrigerant percentage ratio as I had not heard of it. I guess it should be 20% less using 134a ?

In my Haynes auto hvac book it lists the capacities, but for the Rx-7 only back to 1986, and they have a different Sanden compressor.
Oddly the 86 w/sanden is 4.5/30 oil/refrigerant.
87-89 w/sanden 4.0-5.9/30
90 w/sanden 4.5/26
91 w/sanden 4.5*/26-28 The asterisk denotes compressor only. Who knows if the others are compressor only as well, and why the 1.9 oz variation. No reference to R12 or 134a in the capacities either.

Maybe the oil refrigerant % ratio is for the compressor only, the receiver drier, evaporator, and condenser each retain around an ounce.

Were these three cars r134a conversions?

Thanks for your reply.

The 1st one I experimented with propane/isobutane but ended up with 134a. Sold it years ago, I think sant201 on the forum is driving it now.
2nd one is mostly 134a with some 152a mixed in, cools very well. Been a few years now as my DD.
3rd is a friends car I did a few months ago, so no long term results on that.

While you have the system apart you may want to upgrade the condenser. A 2nd gen is a little larger and fills the area in front of the radiator better so less air can bypass it. Helps a lot, esp at idle.
