Hatch actuator

I have gotten 2 used actuators and none of them work (plus my original one). If I put a test light on the connector, it lights up when I hit the dash switch. Can anyone tell me why the actuator would not work? The seller of the used ones tested the second one he sent me and said it was OK.

Please help with any other troubleshooting!
Thanks

I've had two go bad over the years; one to a broken wire, one to the actual solenoid coil failing internally.

A bad ground will also stop them from working.

SO is the ground provided by the bolts holding the hatch lock down? I know I am getting power to the connector. Also, is there a way to test off the car?
Thanks

Hook them straight to a battery.
