Only way I know is to turn the wheel slightly and insert the key. Theres probably some other way around it though. FSM?

Remove the ignition assembly and the lock will go with it. Just tie it up out of the way until you get the new one. Or bum a ride, take a cab, ride the bus. Small chance but you get pulled over and they see the ignition torn to **** they're going to give you a hard time about it.

you just have to remove the plastic around the key cylinder and take a chisle to the top of the bolts that hold the whole cylinder on the colum reason being is that the heads of the bolts are broken off but use a nice sharp chisle and make slits for a flat head and then the whole thing should unlock the steering wheel when its removed

360 gen i did pretty much what u were recomending. wish i had seen your post before i did it though, instead of useing a chisel i drilled into the side of the peice and through the bolts. but, i got it off without damageing ne thing i wont be replaceing once i get a new ignition. however i guess i didnt need it done so soon after all. military fucked up my pay so i cant get a new one till they figure out how to get me my money.

thank you to everyone who helped with this problem.

You don't have to put slots in the bolts, but it does make it easier. If you have a sharp scratch awl, or something pointy you can use it with a hammer toward the outside edge of the bolt and turn them, just break one loose then the other, or your not going to get both off.

Its not a hard process, just remove the plastic around the column, I usually pop the gauge cluster out as well to give more room. I worked in a junk yard for awhile and had to pull a few. The assembly is what locks the column.

Next time, call a locksmith.

If you'd been stopped driving home from a party (dare we suggest, possibly impaired?) in a car with a jimmied lock, you might have spent the evening having a close encounter of the bubba kind.

And then the morning getting your car out of impound.

allright, i purchased a new after market ignition, and have it mounted temporarily in my center councel (to be relocated once i get wireing correct) but the problem i have now is the wipers and cruise controll no longer work. are they ran on a seperate part of the ignition from the on switch? the way i have it wired now all the dummy lights come on just fine, voltage, fuel temp everything reads out, the headlights and everything work. just not whipers or cruise. am i missing something?

Just drill out the spring for the lock. Super easy!

ok. so i had everything done and wired up to a new ignition, worked fine for a few days, then today out of the blue my alternator stoped chargeing. how do u test an alternator to determin if its blown? i went through all the wires best as i could (the old owner (zeireisboy something or another on here) had the wireing apsolutely jerry rigged so it wasnt easy) i found a blown fusable link. just ran a wire straight acrost to bipass it, nothing. so i just need to see if the alternators blown... i did all my wireing with the battery disconected so i dont see how i coulda fucked it up doing it. but who knows.
