1984 GSLSE brake question

Hey all, I was starting to do my brakes today, especially since my pads were way, way past the wear limit, and trying to start with the passenger's rear, I couldn't remove the disc itself! I'm following the FSM, but that provides no answers! Can anyone enlighten me on the art of removing the rotors? Thanks!

Also, the car is an 84 gslse, four wheel disc. thanks!

help

did you remove your caliper,,also set screw on rotor face some models have a screw on the face of the rotor were the studs come out look for that,,if caliper is off and no set screws in place,,you may have to tap it lightly with a mallet,,also some models you have to remove the center spindle nut to remove them,,see if its a floating or fixed rotor application that may help some also ...good luck...

I think the rotor has either 2 or 4 philips head set screws, I wasn't sure if I should remove them or not. I did remove the caliper, that was the easy, straightforward part. Both the pads and rotors were near gone.

remove the caliper and the screws holding the rotor to the axle. Now here is where you can get some frustration out, get a mallet and smack the face lightly, OR you can use a large 3jaw puller to coerce the rotor off of the rear axles.

There is no need to replace the set screws when you reinstall.

Have fun with the handbrake cables, if you can avoid disconnecting them then avoid it.

You use the screw and thread them in the other existing holes to remove the rotors if they are stuck. :-)

Thats true as well Doc, though nowhere near as fun as using a nice big puller, since sometimes the thread holes are quite rusty

well, so far I've been lucky. bleeder screws opened on first try, no rust anywhere, so this should be a breeze. A very well maintained car, with full records!
