1984 GSL-SE - Should I buy?

I've got a line on an 84 GSL-SE. The guy at the shop selling it seems pretty knowledgable about these cars (he knew the differences between a standard RX and an SE, and mentioned that the recirculating ball steering was still tight), and said it's a good strong runner, good tranny, quiet rear end. The interior is supposedly in great shape, even the leather.

It does, however, have fairly significant body damage. It'll need a new right front fender, and dents in the right door and right rear quarter panel will need to be pulled. He said it drives great, it's still legal to drive, and the frame/unibody is still straight.

He wants $850 - at this price I'm not too worried about mileage.

How's it sound? Anything to look out for? As long as it's not rotting away from rust, it seems like a pretty good deal. RX-7 Heaven has some good prices on the door and fender, and I need to learn to do bodywork anyway.

take it and part it out.. I'll give you a couple hundred for the following parts:
Front suspension/brake setup (rotors, calipers, connecting thingeys..)
Whole rear end (disc brake rear end, differential, suspension, brakes, etc..)
Front cover from 13b AND front motor mount (if I need it to go to a 13bt)

I think that's about it, interested?

Buy it and fix it up.. sounds like a good deal. SPecially for less than $1g.

I agree with Pele.. just be sure to take it for a thorough test-drive, to see how it runs and shifts and handles at speed.. and be sure to test all the electricals - switches and dials and lights - and check for rust, too. If all that checks out, then $850 is a good score.

Not really too interested in parting it out as this will be my first RX-7... I can tolerate some rust since it will mostly be an autocross and rallycross car and not be driven on the streets all THAT much, especially with its right side being demolished.
