Exclamation 1984 GSL-SE running rich.. help???

I recently purchased an 1984 GSL-SE and I need some help. It has been starting fine and running great until very recently. I thought I had just flooded the motor and went through the process to take care of that. It now starts and runs but has a definite miss and is running very rich. This is even after its warmed up completely. Ive tried new plugs and wires... no help. I have a good knowledge of cars in general but am unfamilar with the RX7. I've only owned the car a few weeks and do not know a complete history. It looks 99% stock with no modifications other than a new (unsure how new) oxygen sensor and fuel pump. Any idea where to start checking or if there is a simple fix???? Thanks very much.

the miss is just the ACV going bad, but for the richness, that's how it is.. my 85 runs rich, but passes smog with a good catalytic converter, but if your mph dropped tremendously, you might wanna check the 680cc fuel injector, then go with changing the termostat, then try to find a good air temp sensor, check the variable resistor make sure its not set to rich.. check the air flow meter haynes shows a good way to check it if its still good. check the fuel pressure too, see if its too high...

I had the same problem for a long time. After a whole of testing and finding everything was within tolerances, I opened the MAF and recalibrated it and the car is running better than it ever has.

rotorhead is correct about the afm, they get out of adjustment, but dont forget about the
most important sensor. The coolant temp sensor, when they malfunction they go completley
rich. Test it according to haynes manual before you start changing things. What temp is the
car running at? Also something that does not occur very often is that the air exhaust check
valve will allow exhaust to come back into the manifold and no matter what you do the car will run rich. Take off the hose and make sure no air is coming back towards you. rx7doctor

Its located on the right side of engine. The rubber hose that attaches to the back of intake manifold and goes to the catalytic converter. The valve is about 8-10 inches below the rubber hose. rx7doctor
