1984 Clutch Slave Cylinder Replacement

Hi,
I'm replacing my clutch slave cylinder and the replacement part looks exactly the same as the old one, however one of the holes is not big enough for the bolt. Have I ordered the wrong part and is there a similar one with different size holes?

New part is on the left, old part on right. The lower bolt doesn't fit in the lower hole.

It is a 1984 Rx7 12A manual with a carburetor.

Thanks.

Looks to me that they shipped the wrong slave cylinder. Note the offset boss where the clutch hose threads in versus the straight boss on the aftermarket piece. The original unit appears longer than the replacement as well. I would return it and exchange it for another.

Thanks, I'll take it back and see if there is a better one available. I think the offset you are talking about is the yellow part? That is just a temporary plastic plug that you pull out to keep it clean before you install the hose.

The confusing part is that when I google the part, they all look like they have holes that are the same size... Anyone had this issue? I could always try to drill it out, but I'm not sure I'll be able to drill through the steel.

got my parts from Rockauto and never had this problem, autozone if I'm in a hurry and don't feel like paying next day. but just so you know those are definitely different parts, you parts place might have put the wrong part in the right box.

not the yellow cap. The bung that the yellow cal sits in appears to be offset or bent towards the rear slightly on the original slave cylinder. The new one is straight out. Either way of return it and get the correct part.

I've got a feeling the original one is not specific to the 1984/1985 and someone has made the hole larger to make it fit.

Thanks for the advice. Any idea which part exactly? None of them appear to have different sized bolt holes.

This could very well be....or, you may have one with a flaw. The body of the cylinder is just cast, probably to include the mounting holes. The hole could be cast undersize or mis-shaped. Cast iron is pretty soft and certainly drillable. It's also kind of brittle, so just be careful so that the drill doesn't grab and you end up breaking the mounting tab if you decide to drill it out. For generic parts like this slave, vehicle manufacturers would normally buy in bulk and use something already existing by parts suppliers. The same slave could fit several vehicles from different manufacturers to include both car and light truck applications.

being mine is an 83 GS w/ 5 speed MT unless i'm missing something it should be the same tranny called up autozone and they have just one part number for the slave unless you are the only one who has ever owned this car best bet is someone hacked it together. but I have been wrong before....

I'll bet the original owner stripped the bellhousing threads on one of the mounting holes then re-tapped it to a larger size and drilled out the slave cylinder mounting flange to match. I would just drill out the hole on the mounting flange of the new slave cylinder to match the old one.
