1984 Clutch Slave Cylinder Replacement
1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I'm replacing my clutch slave cylinder and the replacement part looks exactly the same as the old one, however one of the holes is not big enough for the bolt. Have I ordered the wrong part and is there a similar one with different size holes? New part is on the left, old part on right. The lower bolt doesn't fit in the lower hole. It is a 1984 Rx7 12A manual with a carburetor. Thanks. |
Looks to me that they shipped the wrong slave cylinder. Note the offset boss where the clutch hose threads in versus the straight boss on the aftermarket piece. The original unit appears longer than the replacement as well. I would return it and exchange it for another.

got my parts from Rockauto and never had this problem, autozone if I'm in a hurry and don't feel like paying next day. but just so you know those are definitely different parts, you parts place might have put the wrong part in the right box. |

Thanks, I'll take it back and see if there is a better one available. I think the offset you are talking about is the yellow part? That is just a temporary plastic plug that you pull out to keep it clean before you install the hose.

I've got a feeling the original one is not specific to the 1984/1985 and someone has made the hole larger to make it fit.

Thanks for the advice. Any idea which part exactly? None of them appear to have different sized bolt holes. |

None of them appear to have different sized bolt holes. being mine is an 83 GS w/ 5 speed MT unless i'm missing something it should be the same tranny called up autozone and they have just one part number for the slave unless you are the only one who has ever owned this car best bet is someone hacked it together. but I have been wrong before.... |
I'll bet the original owner stripped the bellhousing threads on one of the mounting holes then re-tapped it to a larger size and drilled out the slave cylinder mounting flange to match. I would just drill out the hole on the mounting flange of the new slave cylinder to match the old one.
