Carb is a Weber 48 IDA - should be installed and a week or so need to have the manifold drilled/tapped and waiting for some gaskets from Rotaryshack that will be sent out later today. The carb has been modified for more fuel capacity and larger inlet for more flow. That and it has a boost friendly polyurethane float that i had to trade in my soul for.
The engine has stock ports
The manifold is Sigma(blitz) and the Turbo is a K26
coil bracket is from RESPEED
really need the msd6a-no, but it looks nice dont it.

Not too bad. I decided to go with running a simaller intercooler on my 83 12AT. The only thing that I did a little different than most guys, is I mounted the intercooler a little lower and layed it down at a 45 degree angle. That way I was able to keep my AC condensor. The only thing I have an issue with is the forward mount exhaust manifold. I have seen alot of people using these, and having overheating issues. I personally feel the three feet of exhaust pipe running beside the engine contributes to most of these problems. I would suggest fabbing a heat shield to go between the intake and turbo. I would really wrap that pipe also. It looks good seeing another intercooler ran that way. That way you don't have the hassle of moveing the battery, and snaking the pipeing aroung the oil fill tube and dizzy. Most factory turbos will survive with as little as 10 psi of oil pressure. The majority of problems I have seen is over pressure to the turbo. Above 80 psi, you will be pushing blowing a oil seal.

I had the same set up running on the 85 gsl. I didnt have a problem overheating but i did have a little smaller intercooler located in the same spot. I was thinking of getting an exhaust wrap but mainly just for looks the aluminized down pipe is starting to show its age, I figured the wrap would make it look a little nicer. Just worried it will rust away with the wrap.
I have a restictor in the oil feed flange to the turbo has a nice tiny hole to keep too much oil from flooding the turbo and I have a nice 10an return line to the front cover.
Almost done under the hood not looking forward to the wiring of enginebay and the interior. At least I'm on vacation time and getting a good chunk of the work done I still have about 1 week of work on teh car time left so with luck I might get a start up before July.

nice setup. I like how that box looks, almost factory looking.
there is some blow thru IDAs going on over on the vw forums. YES IDA WITH NO BOX AND BOOSTIN TO 12 LBS WITH NO LEAKING ISSUES. it seems there might be another weber people are blowin thru here soon.
