1983 GSL Project Car w/ Auto Fair to Poor Condition

I have the opportunity to buy an 1983 GSL that is currently not running and was in an accident with a deer. I would be looking to make this into a project car and take my time restoring and improving it and and probably eventually look to put another motor in and a manual transmission, perhaps a 13B.

The car is pretty clean for its age and had a lot of the nicer options at the time. This car has been in one family during it's entire time and they have also owned other RX-7's. The person who has it now is the "third" owner.

The bad news is it is currently not running. I think it may be flooded but not sure, the owner has tried to start it and has been unsuccessful. Based on the information he gave me it does sound like it may be flooded and he is no rotary expert and does not know how to unflood it himself. The other issue is there is body damage and headlight damage to the front passenger side of the car where he hit a deer. I have not yet been able to determine if there is any damage to the frame or suspension or any other parts but should be able to make a determination on this soon.

Right now he is saying $300 for this car, what do you think?

That is not a bad price but keep in mind that you may not be able to use the car at all. In that case, $300 is not bad for a parts-car, considering you would be able to use the parts on another car or sell them for money back.

Perhaps pictures will help, as well as a description of the non-start problem. Flooded engines usually just crank and will not fire, so check out this thread HERE.

Thanks for the comments. I saw this car last night for the first time. The deer damage is minimal. In fact there is barely any damage at all, a small dent on the drivers side in the front panel and a bungled left headlight. It is very minimal and no significant damage to any other parts of the car. The body does have a few dings and some rust spots but overall it is in good condition. It has the mega sunroof with clear glass insert or the one that matches the exterior, leather interior which is not too badly worn, original wheels.

Again, it is not running. He claims to have tried a compression test and says he thinks compression is low. The motor has 98,000 miles. Current owner used it as a daily driver for two years and then it quit running. It is probably more than flooding and m ay need a rebuild. He claims the auto tranny is smooth as silk but no way to verify with it not running. I am going to look at it again this weekend with my son and am thinking of offering him $250.

Oh, I forgot, it does turn over but refuses to fire. He also claims to have removed the plugs and clean them and two of them were pretty fouled, but to no avail as far as getting it running.
