1982 gsl fuel pump issues

Im having a problem with no power to the pump at all, this started randomly one night after coming back from hanging out with friends. I hopped in the car (which was cold) and started it, to which the rpm needle was moving very sluggishly.

I thought could be a bad igniter, the likes of which ive fought with before. I know one of them is acting up because I had to swap my leading to my trailing if I remember correctly (this was some time ago) so rpms could work as well as the pump (it has a holley mighty mite 12-426 and a Racing beat built holley 465 cfm carb).

The ground for the pump and tail illum seems good, I took it off the hatch release to clean the ground as well as the mating surface. I want to say the pump is fine due to it not receiving power, but not entirely written off yet. Is there anything I'm missing? I've pulled a wiring diagram for this car off the only pdf I found available.

The only other thing I can think of is a broken wire somewhere on the bowels of the car, or that the ignition switch is bad but everything lights up and it cranks. It will start with fuel so it has good spark (for the most part lol) which leaves me at... an impasse. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Ill be damned if this thing quits on me yet.

My plan as of tonight is to trace everything back and take the door sill off to see if theres a break or maybe some previous kill switch i may have jolted off. We shall see

If I remember correctly the trailing ignitor is connected to both the tachometer and fuel pump. If the trailing ignitor is failing, the fuel pump will not turn on and the tach will not work. It can be intermittent and maybe low voltage (rather than zero volts) can give erratic/sluggish tach readings. I would try replacing the trailing ignitor. I should note that this was the experience with my '84. I think the wiring is different on 83-earlier. Just took a quick look at 83 wiring diagram and can't see that connection. Hmmmm.

As a side note, I was reorganizing my race trailer toolboxes and came across several ignitors. Since I no longer have my RX7, you are welcome to a couple if you want to pay shipping.

I will happily pay for shipping for a few extra ignitors, as they seem to be scarce in this state. Send me a Dm and we can figure something for sure. Anyone that has an engine assembly doesn't want to part it out (rightfully so) or sell stuff at an exorbitant price. I want to eventually do a DLIDFIS system and using my old worn out J109s would be of perfect use. I hear old gm ignitors work good but last time I tried it didnt work (almost assuredly due to my own hand).

ALSO my fuel pump issue is fixed. Very bittersweet but it was simply a fuse that wasn't in place, granted i had never removed it previously so I must've knocked it loose or it slipped out. Regardless im happy I got it working and I fixed a few electrical gremlins that the previous owner had done/not touched. But im still banking on the fact the my trailing won't fail me which isnt the best, and im not getting the best spark i could get out it as it sits. Eventually I would like to put a crank trigger along with a MS system to run direct fire in its purest form with a weber carb.

One day it will be a dedicated street/track car. Its finally got a decent aftermarket for it now which i enjoy browsing and seeing what could work. Always a plan formulating for it lol
