1982 fb rear end query

I have had a few ist gen. RX-7's over the years and have noticed that my two 1982 Gs with the 4wheel disc brake set ups seem to have a noticeable whine definitely coming from the differential. Does anyone know why and if this is typical of that year . Is this an inherant thing typical of the year and model or what?

above

Yes, both 82's have the same whine. None of my other RX-7's either past or present have had this . My 1981 and 1983 have the rear brake drum set up and are quiet in comparison, as was my 1979 and 1985 .

a guy i was talking to told me to test drive his rx-7 after he complained that the rear end was whinning, and asked me if i could hear anyhting out of the ordinarry, i drove it, and drove it some more, and then drove mine, theyre was no difference, at a high rpm it sounds like my rear end is whinning, but i think its just the lsd rear end playing around, does your car have lsd?

btw his was an 85 and mines an 84

Sorry, the 82's do come with LSD. I've got two GSL's to prove it and there are a couple in the local yard too.

These cars are getting old. If it's the LSD, then put some synthetic lubricant, with LSD additive.

If it's the bearings, then they simply need replacing.

All GSL's have LSD.
