Question 1982

Does anyone know how much horsepower a 1982 rx 7 has with a 12a motor?Im getting one in two months and I want to know how powerful it is.

Also, is there anything I can modify on it to get more horsepower out of it?

Welcome to the forum!

The 12A puts out either 100 or 105hp at the flywheel.

As far as getting more hp there are several ways to go you might start with some "small" mods but even small mods noticeable difference... exhaust, intake, ignition... Then there are the bigger hp modifications like: porting, some type of forced induction (turbo or supercharger) or nitrous.

If you are new to RX-7's Felix's Rotary FAQ is a great site to check out.

Hope I helped

You can get as much power as your wallet will allow. My '84 has 1 high capacity cat and a turbo muffler. The original exhaust had 3 cats and muffler which is really restrictive. If its a manual tranny, a lighter flywheel will help too. Stock flywheels are about 30lbs, and after market steel ones are like 17lbs. If you go with an Aluminum (9lbs) flywheel, you may notice rough starts in first gear. Also, replacing the flywheel requires pulling the engine. Remove original fan and replace with electric fan. Check this link for a good fan: http://www.rx7.voodoobox.net/
None of this I mentioned above makes the engine "produce" more power, but a lighter flywheel requires less power from the engine to spin, so that means extra power going elsewhere, like the rear wheels. The less the engine has to do, the more power it can focus on spinning the wheels.
