Question 1981 RX-7 engine wiring

Hi,

Has anyone out there had any experience with engine wiring in a '81?
After I pulled mine out of storage, I found that a hungry rodent had a hayday munching wires in the engine compartment.
I've pulled the dash and don't find any damage there anyway...thank goodness!
I went to a local junkyard over the weekend and pulled the entire wiring from engine to dash to taillights from an '83 and hope to replace from the last point of damage, closest to the firewall...forward.
I plan on matching the wires from the old to the
new, cutting and crimping bullet connectors (male and female) and attaching inside the engine compartment.
Hopefully the '83 wiring is compatible with the '81?!

Any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

In another RX-7 group, it was recommended that I NOT go with the bullet connectors, but rather slip some heat shrink tubing over soldered connections...anybody agree or disagree with that?

help????

That is definitly a better way to go. There would be a lot less chance of then coming apart in the future.

I've never done any soldering before, although I do have a soldering iron...does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Web-sites, required materials, procedures, etc??
