AZ 1980 tii

Hi all,
After years of sitting on the sidelines and planning to eventually get my SA on the road, I finally bought a motor and am beginning the engine swap and rebuild. I am putting a 1991 TII motor and tranny in my 1980 SA, so I will probably be asking for a lot of help, especially in finding hard to find parts. I know there are tons of threads on how to do the swap, so I will check them out before posting questions.
I've attached a pic or two of what I am starting with. Unfortunately, the field mice in my area have made a home in the engine bay and have eaten most of the engine bay wiring, so I will have some work to do on that end. Wish me luck!

Thats probably going to be the best "Before" shot of any rebuild thread on the forum.

Good Luck .

More pics

Hi again all,
I tried to post some more pics earlier, but my connection died trying to connect with the club. I just got a new set of tires for my '7 (Sumitomo HTR200's from TireRack.com) and decided to clean up the "waffle" wheels. Here's a pic that shows the before and after of the sandblasting operation. What looks like brown paint on the before picture is actually rust from the suspension system and brakes. (Remember, this car has been sitting around for about 5 years waiting on me to get off of my butt and to get to work on it.)

this is the engine i've found and the nice thing is it comes with all the parts including tranny, ecu, intercooler...etc. I've been a bit luckier with my engine bay but this car has been in storage for 15 year and amazingly it came out working(sort of)

This is mine

Wow dude, looks like you have some major corrosion issues to deal with. At least mine was in fairly good shape in that regard. Good luck with your rebuild.

Updates

Hi all, a few more updates. I finally got some time to get some work done on the car. I have the engine and tranny split and am trying to get the flywheel off of the engine. Holy frijoles Batman, that big nut is a tough one to crack!
I had to buy an engine wiring harness, because even though I was assured the one on the engine was uncut, it was cut at the bundle that goes to the ECU. The harness is built for an N370 ECU, and I see a guy on ebay has an N374 ECU for sale, does anyone know if they will play nice together?
While I have the engine and tranny split, I want to replace the clutch with a better aftermarket unit. I was thinking of going with an ACT setup, but see quite a lot of Exedy units out there. Anybody have a preference? Thanks up front for any and all help folks.

Iirc, there's a list of ecus in the 2nd gen FAQs. I suspect the N374 is an NA ecu and not compatale. Oddly enough, the vert ecus are since all the JDM verts were turboed. If noting else, find an N370 ecu. They run around 60 used. TII harnesses go for around 200 bucks on the forum, over 600 new from the dealer.

Thanks trochoid, I checked out the faq. It says the N374 is for an 89 turbo, foreign market. I wonder if that means foreign to Japan, or foreign to the US. Either way, it may work, but I wonder if the plug pattern is compatible with the wiring harness I have. I'd hate to spend over a hundred bucks to find out.

LOL @ the mouse nest. You should reinstall it after you're done.

Run a search for N374 ecus in the 2nd gen parts section. If you get several hits then the foreign market is non-JDM. Keep in mind that the ecus are different between the S4-S5s and the wiring harnesses are different between 86 to 87-1/2 and 87-1/2 to 88 in both NA an TIIs. It has to do with injector impedance.
