I just got notified that there is a 1980 RX7 in the LKQ Pick a Part yard in Monrovia, CA. Not sure what it looks like but you should be able to log onto their website and see some pics
I just looked at the pics.....It's a red SA and it's still complete.... automatic car....the motor looks complete, interior it's complete but the seats are trash...the dash is hard to see....it has a dash cover....
Well well well ...
I went on saturday before I saw this post .
What was gone.
Distributor. Both headlight motors , both tail light lenses . Driver side fender . The main electronic box . Emblems , most of the outer trim was trash or missing , turn signal lenses . Mirrors were toast , dash was toast and crumbled when I got there . I destroyed the Ac vents on accident because they were as brittle as a cookie .
What I took . Radiator , Oil cooler . Both front spindle assemblies ( left the calipers and the shims) , Rear tail light assembly . The speedo gear assembly., Chrome A and B pillars.
There were three nikki carbs not counting the one on the car . Left em all. A bunch of random spare parts in there .
The interior is trashed but there are alot of trim parts in there which are salvageable .
The glass is complete and in good shape all around minus the passenger side rear triangle glass , It was broken .
If you guys want I can go back up there tomorrow but you guys have to be in contact with me by tonight .
I got a heads up from Ken ( RotaryKen) after asking him If it was Ok to cut My AC belt off on thursday . After work I left My AC on to circulate some air and it seized up halfway home. I did manage to take the drums as well and will try to contact a milling shop in orange county to see if they can clone them ( to spec ) .
I should have post it here but figured you guys already knew about it since it had been at the Pic a part since Wednesday. and I got the news Thursday and I went Saturday.
Some one should take the engine , The car looks like it was a project car that got junked because the owner died . I only say this because the amount of spare parts inside of it. If i junked any car I wouldn't have left new water pumps or anything new in there . There was even new bolts .
I had to do some stuff this weekend so couldn't go BUT a friend if of mine did go ( there is a mint 2nd gen Prelude in that yard) and he took a look and said the antenna is broken and looks to be a fixed aftermarket one . I remember it having a broken nub too .
You may want to post a want to buy ad in the marketplace section reference the oil cooler. You'll want to specify the year of your car and the year or series of oil cooler that you're looking for.
Mine got busted. unrepairable. I need one that is in operable condition.
What would you want for it?.
I would need it shipped to 37321, TN
Myself I stay away from used oil coolers for several reasons. One is they are also old. I like to buy brand new ones that have the -10AN fittings and add an external oil thermostat with bypass to duplicate the factory cooler with a built in thermostat. Of course then you have to buy or make new oil lines. I really don't trust the near 40 years old oil lines.

Age has nothing to do with reliability , It's aluminium. The issue is people crack the bungs or the bungs from over tightening or crack from being tightened one too many times . Aftermarket oil coolers need a external pressure regulator and thermostat and a custom mount . I'm probably the only person here who has has an oil cooler fail outside the bungs. My car had a failed mount and the cooler was resting on the floor pan and over time it caused a leak . If some debris punctures your oil cooler it will puncture a old one or a new one without discrimination. Iv seen supercharged cars run the stock oil cooler without issue. I'm not saying aftermarket is bad , its not , but used oil coolers are as good as new ones as long as they don't leak , they aren't gonna randomly fail on you. Now hoses , yeah get new hoses , I only trust the original long hose because that one has no kinks in it , the short hose is bent and will fail over time at the crimp.
If you want originally and simplicity , the OEM is the way to go .
If you don't mind a custom build that's insignificantly more complicated go for Kansas idea . + one for availability , lots of good brands out there .
You can also adapt a FC oil cooler but those are also harder to get all of a sudden 😅.

You are correct. Age in general has nothing to do with condition. For example, I have a new in the box, NOS, GSL-SE oil cooler that is in perfect shape. That would be the extreme though. If it's the original that has been in use, most are pretty haggard with bend fins and who knows how close to cracking the bungs are. For my time and money, I'll stick to new even if I have to use an Earl's external t-stat.
When I purchased my 1979 from the original owner in 2017, I was lucky enough to get a NOS 1979 exhaust and oil cooler. He also had a mold of the front lower aftermarket valance and braided Racing Beat brake lines.
