Any convertible 1st gens, are going to be hack jobs or Pacific Avatar conversions,of which there are very few.
Only 126 official cars exist and of those, even fewer still are likely to be 79-80 models since the 1st gen spanned a total of some 7 years.

In Australia six were produced in 84/85 through Maxda with the final work being subcontracted to a specialist firm. The modification was fully engineered then certified by the Government as meeting Australian Design Regulations after the prototype was examined.

Mine is a 85 with a 12AT engine currently producing 220rwhp with stock ports and turbo. Interior and exterior are original as I wanted to keep it a true gen 1.

My post is 8 years late but I have one of these

I am the proud owner of a 1980 RX7 Convertible. I live in Southern California and Bought this about 14 years ago. It's burried in the Garage, it ran when I last played with it. Having kids and Life has kept me away from it. Now that the kids are older, perhaps I will take her out for a spin.

I have a 1980 RX7 Convertible in my garage. It's been buried under home storage for 20 Years. Like a Barn Find the only thing you could see was the bumper sticking out. My Wife has un-buried it and I hope to get it back on the road. Everything worked when I last used it so I am hoping I can bring it back to life.

Would love to see pictures of the car and hear that it's back on the road!! May have to do a few things like clean the fuel system, rebuild the carb, new tires and brakes, belts, hoses, oil and coolant change etc. Will be worth investing the money into for sure!

It's funny as I did not realize I posted in 2014 that I was going to work on the car. Did not happen then. Perhaps now I am ready !!!. I will reach out for sure before I startn to talk about what I should change out before I try to start it. Thanks for the encouragement !!!

Never !!!! - But you never know.... If I do you will be the first one I call. I am hoping however I can count on you to help me bring her back to life. I just bout an ignition collar and a set of keys and cylinders. This is my dream car. In 2014 the car had been sitting for many, many years.. I needed to move it to another garage so I figured I would try to start it. I bought a new battery and prepared to spend a long time trying to get her started. As amazing as it sounds, the first turn of the key, and in a second and just a rotation or two of engine it was started. It was a sign !!!!
