Check out www.racingbeat.com and www.mazdatrix.com for performance parts and all that stuff. They sell spark plugs and mazdatrix sellsoil filters i think. As for rust, Check out behind the storage bins and under the wheel wells

Its nice to see another LS owner welcome to the club. Just keep up on the normal upkeep checking oil, and everything else, but the most important have fun with it.
Do some searching on storage for that beauty winter is coming.

ok here are a few shots. its raining and i gotta get ready for work. this is how the car came to me. can the chrome trim around the shift *** be replaced? it has some more wear than i like. all photos had the flash on
OMFG! Great find "7SpringsMisfit", That is a beauty. Keep it like that it will worth a lot I think in the future.
If I am correct, I think someone said that Japa cars are falling into Collection cars so who knows what the future might bring in your way. =)
P.S. Take a picture of the engine bay when ever you get a chance. I would love to see it.

Wagners is a really nice junk yard. They let you pull your own parts and have some already pulled. Its all foriegn cars, so they aren't stupid when you ask for a partcular model and year. In fact the one brother playas around with rotaries sometimes, so they have some clue. Clean yard and well organized.
I used to go up there for parts for my 80, but lately there's not many 1st gens up there. I always call ahead and ask if they have any 80-85 rx7s before I go up. Theres lots of FCs though, which I grabbed some 2nd gen coils and stuff from. Also, they tend to price things high, I 've gotten better prices at times by going to ebay. You have to be ready to haggle over the price of stuff.

i have that same car with 61K. its mint. i love your car. your color is called "solar gold" there were an estimated 500 made in that color. the other colors were brilliant black and aurora white, totaling 2500, they were released may, 28 1980. here's mine:

OMG, you guys make me sick! I would have given my left nut to find a SA or FB in that kind of shape! That is truly are RARE find. Congrats on keeping another first gen alive. But, PLEASE don't change her, she pretty as she is! BTW, welcome!!
very very nice indeed ... for that price too its a steal, despite what people have been getting as "good deals" around here, most of them don't really compare to that. What is that on the side of the gear shift (the black stuff) on the center console by the passenger side? Besides that, I think it might be the lowest Mileage that i've heard on this forum for an SA especially in that condition. I suggest that you drive it like the previous owner did 1k a year max. Posted in the right section at the right time, i can see this car going for about $10k because of the condition and mileage.

Very nice car, congrats on the find!
As for spark plugs and oil filters... I run 2nd gen plugs in my FB and a purolator oil filter. You can find these plugs at most auto parts stores (checker schucks and kragen, advance auto, napa, etc)
that car is definatly worth twice what you paid for it. i'd never let it go if i were you. i'll never let mine go. besides, most people wouldnt give you much for it. they have no idea how rare and well taken care of a car like yours and mine are.

some maintenance tips
Just got a Covercraft for my 80 SA - they make nice covers!! Figure about $130+ depending on model of cover. Money well spent especially if you can't keep it in the garage (mine sits outside all winter under the cover - car looks like new...). BUT if you park it where its windy the cover will destroy your paint!
Some thoughts on your new car:
-OIL: Would suggest you figure out how quick your RX goes thru a quart of oil. Newbie owners sometimes don't get it that these burn oil by design. What I did: check and make sure oil is proper level on dipstick; "zero" odometer; check oil every 100 miles till the oil drops to 1/2 on stick - THAT's as low as you want it to go!!. On mine that was about 600mi. They all vary (200 to 800) and you need to know what yours is so you don't make the NUMBER ONE mistake of rotary ownership and run her low on oil.
-Second, unless your seller gave you complete service records, I would urge you to assume the worst and THOROUGHLY go thru the entire cooling system! 25 yr old any-cars will need this, and rotaries are VERY sensitive to overheat-damage (like: kiss roto-moto good-bye!):
-pull rad and have it professionally rodded and dunked and pressure tested
-replace ALL hoses, including the 3 heater hoses that run to the interior - the longer, driver side hose coming FROM the heater (and passes under the oil filter) is particularly easy to fail due to yrs of oil falling on it!
-make sure your rad shop uses DISTILLED water with the coolant mix. Ask for the coolant type that mixes with BOTH the Green or Orange-style coolants, because you do NOT want to mix thse to by mistake!
-likewise replace diff and tranny fluids. Readline synth is really popular on the Forum here, but even the regular is fine
-brake fluid: likely NEVER been changed! Br. Fluid is a water magnet meaning moisture in lines can be corroding the whole system. Get it flushed back to front...
-finally: FUEL FILTER!
If the car was seldom driven, unless properly stored, fuel tanks can get rusted inside from condensation from sitting half empty (always store your SA with a FULL tank and fuel stabilizer if more than 4 months) = clogged fuel filter. I change mine every spring - easy, its right in front of driver side rear wheel.
Nice, original RXs are pretty rare - SAs in that shape, even rarer! - SA LS's?? geez, you have a real special car. Maintain it and you will never lose a dime during ownership! - tell that to the guy who just dropped $35K+ on a new RX8!!
enjoy and welcome-

PS I paid $4100 for mine with 64K mi - so you did well!!
PPS the chrome strip around the shifter can be re-plated. Check out for places in the Hemmings Motor monthly mags. The chrome surround detaches from the shift plate.
