1980 12a with stock 83 header, stright pipe back to tip.. how loud?

I am just wondering.... Will it be louder than a harley?

I ran with the header open.... it wasnt bad.... but it was an attention getter....

I want to get a Racing Beat Long Primary exhaust, and with the custom body kit I want, I will be able to make it dual exit, through twin turn up tips Should be sweet... but thats in WAY distant future...

Anyways, some help will be good... I am wanting HP once I get it to run (i have never had it run with full power from the motor, except for about 1 week, when I had just went through the carb, and was running open manifold:p fun, fun, fun) But more power will always be craved.......

Could I make my own presilencers using a 22" glass pack? would that make it quieter?

What about a flowmaster? Will they quiet it? Will it melt it? Is there a common muffler that I can buy cheap, used? Is there one that flows good, and comes on a common car??

Well, Thanx, I appriciate it

Laterz, Andrew

dude, run a search under "stainless steel" there are about 4 threads that cover different exhaust combos.

header and straight pipe to a non-PrimaFlow muffler screams "ticket me" ... it's even a bit buzzy with a PrimaFlow, so just imagine ...

Don't get a flowmaster, I had one on for like a month and then took it off. It is sitting in my basement right now. Souds like garbage, as if a piece of metal was vibrating. People used to say, I think you need a muffler.
NOw I have header to ceramic glasspack to dynomax super turbo to a dual resonated tip and it is still loud, but sounds a little better.

What other common muffler is there?? (Alot of people I know are of V8 species) I want one that will partially quiet it so I can atleast hear the radio over the exhaust....

And would it be wiser to make my own presilencer, by taking on of the glass packs I have, and slicing it open, and sticking steel wool in it, then to get and RB presilencer? I will need somthing quiet, but I would still love to be able to hear my car, cause I dont really pay much attention to the tach when I am going....

Will a stock mustang muffler work? Or what?

Thanx, Laterz, Andrew

Peace...

I'm unsing a full stainless apex'i n1 "style" that I bought off ebay and gutted cats. I love how it sounds actually, and I got the muffler shipped to my house for $80.

cutting the presilencer with steel wool is a good idea, if you want to go the custom route. i wouldn't recommend using the mustang muffler though. use something like a Walker/Dynomax or Magnaflow muffler and the sound should be alright.

Would a DTM ricer muffler be loud??? I dont care about what it sounds like.... it can sound like its about to blow up... as long as its quiet, and pretty free flowing...
