If I were going to buy an Rx7 from Japan, it would have a 12at in it. Why bother importing a car that came to the states?

uhh.. because it's RHD and it's an SA, not an FB. what's the big deal even if it has 12at in it? it would probably still need to get rebuilt and done up from the ground up. i'd still junk the OG motor it came with and go all out...

It's a RHD. Thats awesome. Someday I'm going to japan to import one hopefully. That would be sweet. A 12at would make it better though for sure.

3500 for a butchered, poorly cared for and missing parts that make it a JDM SA, I think not.

Well if you want to look at it that way you are probably right (butchered car not 12AT etc) however here are your importation problems, the 12a cars are fairly easy to import it takes next to nothing to make them emissions legal which they have to be at least once in their life also it is fairly easy to convert them to be safety legal as well (bumpers, doors some lights) and lastly to get past Uncle Sam's final decree since the car was already imported in LHD form it is esentially the same car. However when we start talking about the 12AT motor it was never imported so we raise awhole lot of problems unless you have an ironclad loophole to get that first title. this is why we can import 20b engines but we see very very very few cosmos.

Now in defense of thie RHD it is the rarest color of all Rx7s. Also without seeing the vin # i don't know how early but it is an early 78 car the door panels give it away. Yes there are pieces missing but that would also depend on what you are going to do with the car as most of the interior is US replaceable, granted the fender mount mirrors are impossible to find as i still need 2 sets for 2 of my 3 RHD Rx7s cars

All japanese first gens are SA's, and rhd cars are far too over rated regardless of how you look at it. Its only signifcance is being different, and making life a bit more difficult when everything is set up for lhd cars.

The 12at would already be fuel injected, turbo, and even if I did have to rebuid it would be the same as a normal 12a.

Not always i bought one out of Tenn that is sitting in my garage right now. But it would not surprize me like the 20B cosmo in Idaho (New Zealand) on ebay right now.

But I am pretty sure that this one belongs to someone that is actually on this forum. I think it sold on ebay about 2 years ago also. Green is kind of hard to miss.

They're not all the (American) SA body and interior style though. That switched over, they just didn't change to FB in the VIN #.

I dunno, its still a mutt SA with needs - for $3500?? Get an awful nice US version for that and maybe change left over. Sez "GT" on the back, but has the dorky "Custom" stripper-version steering wheel, no rear seat, wrong wheels, no sunroof (weren't available there till 1980 model, this is a '79) - no cool ender mirrors - shall I go on??
