16v racing battery in 1st gen

Im considering installing a 16v racing cell in the race car.

I dont care if the alternator is 12v, because during the duration of the race, I dont expect to be at the point where it will do anything for at least half of the race, the 16v cell should stay above the point where the regulator would kick in the alternator.

SO..are there any components that I would want to get ther 12v voltage reducer for? I dont THINK so, the coils are upgraded, the ignitors should be ok.

Comments?

the ignition is going to be the only thing you want to run on the 16v battery. it could possibly harm everything else. ive seen regulator go out on alternators and its blown just about every bulb in the car and ive seen some that havent done that. its also possible to hurt the gauges, modules, radio, etc. that are supposed to run on 12 volts.

the only real reason they make thos is to up the voltage on the ignition(the more you put in the more you get out) and one company makes a 3 post 16volt battery(1 negative,1- 12v,1-16v).

Well, no radio, guages, bulbs (cept rear)..just a starter and ignition.

So..any reason remaining not to use one? Alternator regulator doesnt concern me too much either.

Cool, I'll give it a shot.

Im thinking hard over the DIS ignition mod. Looks like a total job of about 30 minutes to plumb up.

My class rules allow any coils that fit the stock brackets, but the mounting of stock fitting coils is open, and of course..this mod uses OEM components just fine.
