13B and header, you'll need to find a deal on a 13b tho.

With no porting or boost 155fwhp is basically all you will be able to get out of it.

165 seems an odd number to shoot for...why so specific? Who's power/weight ratio are you trying to match?

You're not gonna get there without porting the engine, man...just not gonna happen. Most aftermarket power-gaining carbs won't even do that much good unless you port the engine...

Well why is porting out of the question? Because otherwise your goal is hard to reach!

I'm going to say porting is out of the question because he feels he lacks the skill to successfully tear a 12a down and rebuild it...much less port it himself...just what I'm thinking...

ITs not that I lack the skill its that I lack the time, the space and I need to have it every day to get to work If it didn't and I had the time I'D be glad to port it but its just not work and to answear a previous question I'M trying to match my friends 72' porsche 911 .

How about a little spray? I beleive it works well althouhgt i'm not real sure what it takes to use on a rotor. That is what I'm planning and I don't expect it to cost that much. after all a 100hp boost would be just a little wild!

Ya know the saying "If you want to play, you have to pay"? Couldn't be any more true when it comes to cars. I'm not sure your idea of budget. You could do a budget turbo setup for 1-2k. If you want to stay NA get a S5 engine, rebuild it, port it, and drop her in there in a weekend easily; put a Weber and header and your good to go. Around 200hp!!

Oh ya, why would you want to settle for 165hp? I didn't want to settle for 265. To each his own.

Good luck

you can't leave the carb alone. it has to be setup for boost. Rob at www.rotaryshack.com can do that for ya. you wont need an intercooler, but it's safer that way. you can pick up an npr one for damn 100 bucks, why pass that up? anywho, i'm doing it as well. so good luck!

Wasn't HP rating in '72 still gross BHP, not net? If so, the 911 is probably more like 130-140 hp. Easy to match with intake and exhaust on a good motor.

buy another 12a...can get one with a blown engine for less than $500. Buy a rebuild kit and a dremel tool, $500. Rebuild in your spare time...port it...throw it in (I can install or pull a 13B in 30 minutes) and go. Easy. Less than $1000, and you'll have a friend trying to upgrade his porsche to keep up with your RX-7.

Porting is the cheapest way. Along with a good induction/exhaust system. That will put you well beyond 165.

I can vouch for that being true. I did my blowthrough turbo setup for just over $1000

1500, tough one.... I'd probably rebuild, port it and get an exhaust. Although a cheap turbo running 4-6psi would definately get you there for 150.

What if you found a running 13b out of an -se? With a carb and exhaust system, it could get you there.
