140 amp alternator upgrade

Well after many up grades I've had my stock 55 amp, second gen 80 amp and a 3rd gen 100 amp alternator. I've been reading the 105 amp upgrade thread by Big_Ern https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...lco+alternator

I needed more power to handle my rather large system, so here is a 140 amp AC Delco unit. As you can see in the pictures, I've done many electrical upgrades: 2 second gen fuse boxes, upgraded 4 gauge power to the fuse panels, 4 gauge ground to the alternator and 4 gauge direct to the starter. Never do an electical upgrade without upgrading your grounds!

Not hard to do. I already installed a Pineapple Racing alternator relocation bracket from a previous install. The hook ups where very easy: S connector to back of alternator (direct feed), F connector was not used, L connector was connected to the stock L, P connector was not used.
I picked this b eauty up from luiml73 as he was stripping his wide body down.

Man that is a real drag on your peformance. The bigger the merry go round the bigger the motor it needs. Of course thats my theory and in no way am I qaulified to call that a fact.

Yep! The system is over 1200 watts. One amp has a max 35 amp pull while my sub amp can pull 80 amps. Then you add in a the electric fan, fog lights and the rest of the draw on the car it all adds up. Its better to have too much then too little. Put it this way, my lights don't dim anymore when this thing is cranking with everything on with it.

Oh, if I want to run a small microwave or blander I can handle that too.

Man John,

That is one disgusting engine compartment - I even think I see a drop of oil somewhere there!

Seriously, that is one awesome compartment, I am quite envious

Nice, what's the part number on that alt? Do you think it'd mount in the stock location alright?

Jon, I don't know the part number as I got it off a member here. I think it will mount in the stock location, but not with a strut bar. This thing is alot bigger then stock.

Looks good! Can't wait until my goodies from luiml73 arrive. Sad that he had to tear it down, but sure saved me alot of money.

Nice work man. I may have to follow your example if I ever re-install my 130 watt spots again...

I know this is an old thread but was that 140 amp alt modified in anyway to bolt onto the pineapple racing alt relocation bracket? A part number would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ed

Do have the part number on this alt? I'm already using the relocation bracket and need to upgrade my 2nd gen alt coz when I drive at night I only see a little over 12v.

Thanks, Ed

I have one if you're interested, but I'm curious why you'd be looking for one when their are much better ones on the market like Re-speed's.....

I've seen Re-Speed's and they are quite nice. To be honest, I just like how that particular one looks. My buddy has it on his car as well cleaned up real nice and it looks pretty awesome. I'll send you a pm.
