Paul, beside your vast knowledge, you have a great sense of humor. Your Mum sounds like a woman of patience and outstanding demeanor.

For those that don't know, the 'Oh ****' handle is genericly known as a passenger assist handle. Though intended to help a passener's ingress and egress, it is often used to aide them in remaining firmly planted in their seat when we decide to show off our 'abilities'.

Well I have the 2nd gen coil upgrade. Forgot to mention that. I'll try another fill up and make sure to keep my foot out of it. I usually shift around 3-3500. And lately I have had the Ac on. It's around 98 degrees here in KS.

Narrowed it down to these things I think.

When I bought the car I was AVG 25mpg (highway) (AC off) driving it back from st louis. Seems since the emissions removal I've lost alot of MPG. I'm sure I don't have any vac leaks. Anything else pertaining to gas mileage on the rat nest/ emissions crap removal that is frequently over looked?

Since the electric fan w/ schroud (wired to come on with IGN) and new radiator install the car runs extremly cool usually around 130* even with AC on on a 90* day sitting in traffic i only hit around 160*? I had to double check this with a laser temp gun but it is correct. I'll look into getting an electric fan temp switch becasue now it runs all the time. Although I'm thinking that the 170* thermostat is malfunctioning if it is running this cool.

I'm running new plugs wires and cap and rotor. I keep my cars pretty "tuned-up". I noticed my O-rings on the intake are seeping a little and leaking coolant into the motor and I'm sure the carb could use a rebuild. I'll fix this up try a few more tank fulls and report back.

Thanks for all the input.

Operating temp can make a big difference on mileage and performance. A 180* thermostat and and a temp control on the fan will improve your mileage.

Apparently rotaries weren't meant for heavy traffic. They're really fun in the twisties around the suburbs tho!!!

and just like all cars, you'll get better gas mileage if your tires are full

*Update*

Well, I learned I must have a lead foot. I drove the car for a week paying particular attention to not floring the car around and shifting at about 3k max. I did this for a week 80% of the time with the AC. Averageing 17.2 MPG. About a 20 min cruise on the highway and then 10 miles of city driving a day.

Anyway I just need to relax when driving I guess... Thanks all.

It should have one. Maybe you just haven't driven your car hard enough to hear it. Sometimes they lag behind the needle and don't actually go off until 7500.

Also note, if you have a lot of "Stop 'n Go" driving in your schedule, DONT IDLE it. Keep it at around 1200 RPM. You'll see a bit of a better number that way (as odd as it sounds)

That makes no sense at all. If the carb is set right it, it will burn less fuel/min at 750 rpm, than it will at 1200.

In my experience the biggest gas mileage killer on my 84 and 85 GSLs has been vacuum leaks. I usually get 23-24 mpg, sometimes as high as 26, for my mostly highway driving. But when the gas mileage starts to drop, sometimes as low as 16, I've learned to go looking for a vacuum leak, usually I find one.

Hmmm, maybe that's just with my car. I should note that I have a Yaw.

And that I average around 19 MPG on a day-to-day basis. Of course, we don't have much of that thar stop and go here.
