13BT and Submodel for a rotary newb

As the tittle says i'm a rotary newb and i've got 2 problems at once from lack of experience. First and foremost i have no idea what submodel my car is.I'm from canada(if that matters) and my car was repainted, the only badging says RX-7 and mazda no GS* or anything like that.It has no sunroof,no wing a/c(if that matters)and that's all the options i can think of atm.

And 2nd question, and i've searched but lack of knowledge towards rotaries left me a bit confused.First off is the TII just a single turbo 13B? Second, front plates? I know it says the GSL-SE front plate is what i need but what's the difference between the front plates that makes it incompatible?
And is there any parts that will need to be custom besides i'm guessing intercooler piping?
The reason i'm asking this is because i have and offer on a '91 & with a shot body but great running motor from a friend.

Thanks for the help everybody.

How many spokes does your steering wheel have? Two means it's an S, four means it's a GS.

The TII swap has been covered a lot. You can either use a GSL-SE front cover or a 12A front cover, either will work. The reason for this is that the motor mounts on second-gen engines are on the side, whereas first-gens have them on the front, so you need a front cover with mounting studs. You will need a GSL-SE oil pan to clear the crossmember. Parts that are custom are... well, pretty much everything. Exhaust, notably. Fuel system. ECU, too, if you're planning on running much more than stock boost.

i'm not planning on turning the boost up anytime soon since i'm probably running stock rear end,so i can just use the stock ECU then? i know it's been covered a lot but soooo many dead links, and red x's.
Turns out I have a GS.
And as far as fuel system are we just taking a fuel rail? or what? And i'm guessing a custom driveshaft will be in order.
Is there any compatable parts between the FB and FC?(outside the drive train)

Please enjoy the car in stock form for a while. It's very easy to geti in over your head on a swap project, even when you do know everything there is to know about it. It's not "easy", and it's not cheap. I wouldn't want you to sideline your car, then give up on it after things don't go as planned. Oh, and things NEVER go as planned.

oh no i'm not planning on doing this before i've got all the parts i need.I've got enough expierence in the form of help with some of my friends.Side lining the car isn't a problem,it's expect since i picked this up as a project. As for custom parts i'm in welding and fabrication in college right now so i've got access to everything i'll need, along with a 3 bay garage and lift at the gfs parents house that i'm welcome to use.
i'm not saying it'll be easy by any means or that i won't get in over my head, that's why i ask questions haha.

You can use the stock ECU as long as everything's wired up correctly. Note that S5 and later engines used electronic OMPs, so you'll have to trick the ECU into thinking it's there (which it won't be, because you're using a first-gen front cover). There may be some other sensors you'll have to do this with, too, I'm not sure.

Fuel system requires an EFI fuel pump and larger return line. If you're wise, you'll also invest in a surge tank and a second fuel pump to feed it. Tweakit.net has a nice surge tank if you don't feel like making one.

You won't need a custom driveshaft unless you're doing a TII tranny at the same time. If you are, then you will, and you'll also need to modify the shifter position.

since i'm unbolting the trans from the engine anyway i'm obviously gonna put in a new clutch and flywheel. And what about the rear end? how fast am i going to blow that apart haha, and what would be the best option for handling the increase of power?

even without the links there is a TON of info in threads about the TII swap; there are parts lists, recomended upgrades and much much more.

If you need to ask about what front plates are you are nowhere near ready for this caliber of swap. Learn about this engine, the car, the turbo engines then figure out if you still want to do it.

My .02 cents. Alot of people start this swap or think about it then quit because....well because they werent ready for it.
