13B Turbo or COrvetTE??
13B Turbo or COrvetTE??
So i've gotten myself into a nice race with a corvette. It's an 04 Z06, simple but notorious for raw power and stuff, but were dealing with rotary.
I've got a 79 first gen, i've fitted it with se suspension all around, drilled and slotted all around
13b turbo II engine and tranny s5
3" all the way
garr. t4 turbo , custom exhaust manifold and tial racegate, blitz bov
all other neccesary goodies that go along with a car like this.
i'm running about 8 pounds right now, but i'm thinking about putting it up a bit to at least 12.
what you guys think.
let me know so i can prepare for this confrontation

Don't blow your motor trying to do the impossible. Either tie a boat anchor to his bumper, or invite him to an autocross course (where you might stand a chance)... But in a straight line, he'll eat you for lunch and spit out apex seals...

yeah if you are going to do that I would definatly bump up the boost. if you are running pump gas like 91 or whatever is around there i would not go higher than 13 PSI. if you have a well built engine it should be completly fine at 13 PSI. Then you will still probobaly loose but there is more of a chance
now if only they made a gas we could spray into our engines to make it go vrooom... i doubt you want to go that path because i think if you would have it would already be done, it seems like you have alot of time and money into your car already. i wish for rain and the best of luck to you.
Hands down, the C5 Z06 will make it look like you were standing still. That's a Z06 you're talking about. The high performance "trim line" of the 'Vette, pumping out 405HP @6000 RPM and 400 ft-lb of torque at 4800 RPM. All that feeding into a 6-speed manual. Done right, 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. The quarter mile in 12.4. Amazing for a car that weighs around 3100-3250 pounds.
If your 7 can do those 0-60 & 1/4 mile times, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, I'd either back away from it or go ahead and race him just to see how well your car can hold up. Either way, keep us posted.

That's correct.
That HP and TQ rating is stock from the factory. A 405HP/400TQ powerhouse of a 5.7L pushrod 350 V8.
If the owner of it did any mods to it, it can vary even more, as we all know. From an intake setup to a supercharger. Then, it's just your worst nightmare.

The potential is there. You have several hundred pound weight advantage, but your suspension will need more upgrades along with the engine.
You don't need a 4-rotor or even a 3-rotor. 400 hp 13B rotary engines are almost commonplace, and you won't need that much hp due to the weight advantage. You definitely want the best tires you can get, along with suspension upgrades to beat him on a road course.

What HP are you putting to the wheels, remember that 405 is at the flywheel and the car is 600/700 lbs heavier, it could be closer than you think if you have 300 HP at the flywheel. You will need great tires though.
My boss has a CTS-V with the same motor and tranny.
Its quite a bit heavier than the Vette, but it still pulls like a freight train.I can give him a good race, but he has so much torque,Im usually playing catch up in the beginning. The CTS does a high 12/low 13 second quarter mile,so the Z06 is gonna be even quicker.......you need more motor, suspension, grip, ect to compete.

If his engine is stock you will need more than 300HP to keep up.
Get some 8" or wider slicks!
Try to get rid of more weight.
You could remove your rear bins, spare, jack, pasenger seat, carpet, door panels, sunroof(if you have one), rear hatch, side windows, hood, and change to a mini battery. You may even need to take your doors off. If after that he beat you he might try to say that he "blew your doors off", but you will know that you took them off yourself.
