It looks to be in good shape, but without a compression test, you can't really tell. I bought an engine off ebay awhile back, and I got burned. They claimed it ran fine and no smoke. As it turns out, the waterseals were shot... Part of the groove was missing, and another part was broken out. All of the seals on that rotor were stuck bad. You may luck out, just saying that I certainly did not.
The $250 should fetch you a used turboII tranny if you can find one local, it'll hold whatever you plan to get out of the new motor.

It's the non-turbo motor. 89-91 (s5) N/A had high compression, which makes the 160hp. If it's in as good of shape as he said, then yea, that would work great. I'm always leery of used motors since I got burned on mine. I was lucky however, that I only spent $450 shipped.
It looks like that motor includes the Front Mount Oil Cooler (FMOC) which is a nice upgrade for cars with the beehive. I believe your car already has a FMOC though, so you may be able to sell one of them off to recoup some of the cost.

If your going to run an N/A 13B,then the engine and tranny will bolt right up.The clutch splines are the same for all cars from 79-92, except the TII.Youll have to run a 225MM clutch disc to match the 89's flywheel. The 79 had the smaller 215MM disc, but the tranny input splines are the same.
If your going to run a TII 13B engine, then youll have to either mix and match AT rear counterweights and aftermarket N/A light flywheels, run the appropriate 13B N/A flywheel that matches the counterweight of the TII engine,or do the right thing and run a TII tranny. The 12A tranny wont hold up for long behind a turbo engine.

The 13B transmission has a noticeably taller 5th gear, which makes it better for smooth cruising on the freeway. I have an SE trans mated to the 12A in my 83GS and it's very nice.
