I hear ya, though. A 1.7l 914 isn't anything to go drag racing in. I think they had like 80hp.
Unless it was autocrossing or a really tight track, I can definitely see how an SA would turn a quicker lap time.
Yes, given a tight enough track, a 914 would kill everything. In my wilder days, I was chased down by a Trans Am, and a sedan on the free way. They tried to box me in. I hit the brakes, the t/a slammed into the sedan, and I escaped to an off ramp doing about 70 mph. Saw another car spin out while trying to keep up with me on the turn. Back then t/a's could out accelerate a ferrari. But the only thing that could out stop a 914 was a fiat x 1/9. And only a triumph could out turn it.

My stock rx-7 fb has way more acceleration than my 914 1.8. On ice, you would want a 914. Does anyone know if on ice, when you brake, do you go faster? It sure seems that way.

thats a good point. Its been close to 10 years since I had seat time now. I had totally forgotten about the DB limitations!

I can actually recall talking to E prod. drivers who intentionally babied their BP's or PP's (i cant remember which) around certain corners at Akron just so they didnt get DQ'd haha.
