13B into 82

Ok, I got an SE engine to drop into my 82. Are there any SE owners that know things to supe up the 13b? I know nothing about fuel injection etc... the 12a was simple, but unsure about the 13b.

Also, what else will I need to swap over? I'm sure there is a computer to run the fuel injection system. Where would that be?

Thanks,

Chris

why? I always figured that fuel injection = more power

if that is not the case, where would I get a carb/ manifold to hook up to it?

ok... maybe I'm blind, but I looked around before I posted to see if anyone else had posted the same thing...

I'd rather have intelligent responses than "hey, this guy is wanting to do what someone else did!!"

If you know, share the knowledge!! That's what these forums are all about, not flaming other people!!!

get a Haynes manual. and start learning about the 2 setups in relationship to one another. If you ask questions like wheres the computer at? And 'im sure theres a computer for FI?' then use terms like 'drop in' . Then you way over your head...

Its a pretty easy swap, provided you have what it takes to do it. And thats the 'complete block' a new RB motor mount for the longer motor. The wiring harness, the computer and a few other things. But honestly, why the hell go through all that trouble for another 35 horsepower, it just seems stupid to me... Just bolt on some mods to the 12A and be done with it...

BTW: The stock computer for the GSL-SE is located pass side floorboard.

Oh and I never flamed you. Beleive me if people start flaming in here, it can get pretty ugly pretty fast.

so, port the 12a, get better exhaust and say screw the 13b... ok, thanks. That is what I had planned on doing in the first place.

BTW. I use simple terms so that everyone understands me. I hate having people ask me for definitions for things.

You streetport the 12A, get a nice exhaust and nice intake system, you will be close to 200hp, probally around 185+

How much $$$ you got to put into this project? A light-weight steel flywheel would benefit the engine. Fuel injectors don't necessarily mean more power. Power advances are made 2 ways.

1) Making the engine more efficient. The light flywheel, for example, requires less power from the engine to get it moving. If you get an after market ehaust, then you won't need the air pump that pump cool air into the catalytic converter. The less the engine has to turn, the more efficient it will be and the more power it can spend on the rear wheels.

2) Fuel. The more air/fuel mixture you can get into each combustion area, then the more power you can make. Turbo chargers, superchargers and nitrous oxide are 3 ways to get more air into the engine. You have to deliver adequate fuel to keep the mixture balanced, and to prevent detonation, or knock as it is more commonly referred to. Street porting the engine increases the port size, which changes the duration of the opening and closing of the port, allowing more air/fuel to enter the rotor. This is similar to changing the cam on a piston engine, only easier. I don't know how familiar you are with the rotary engine, but if you don't know what I'm talking about, then check out these links.

I think all you need to put the 13B into a 12A chassis is to replace the front cover and oil pan. I'm interested because I have a chance to buy a very nice 13B, less intake and exhaust stuff (and alternator, etc) for $1000 and I thought I could stuff it into my 83GS when engine-change time comes (115k on the meter). Then, Id carburate it (Holley? Weber?) to get something like NA, maybe pass smog without tricks, and get some extra HP while rejuvenating the power plant (I could use just a little extra power). Whaddya think?
