yuck, that's even worse than a T2 swap... i'd rather see someone do a V8 swap before they start using happy gas

well, a proper nitrous system will have a throttle microswitch, maybe a timer... hide the bottle in the big hollow area where the back seat's supposed to go, hide the lines in the miles of emissions hoses, and use the cig lighter as the arm/disarm switch. totally hidden system. push the cig lighter in to arm (the lighter won't heat up and pop out - not enough current) and floor it to activate. be a good idea to have an RPM switch too so it doesn't come on below a certain engine speed.

Would I be able to run low 14's with a full interior, exhaust, intake and porting? What level of porting??

You won't make much more power than stock with the stock exhaust. It's the primary bottleneck in the system. Generally speaking, more power = louder and more obnoxious. (But then again, loud and obnoxious is why I like rotaries )

Extend-port should get you well into the 14's.

peejay....about your juice ideas...

I'll try all of that except for the cig idea. I'm using my refund to get a used NOS bottle, new Cheater solenoids and two wing foggers for the secondary side of the intake. I keep wobbling on whether to go MSD or DFIDLIS to spark this mess. I'm going to start a thread to track progress because I also plan to head to Alamo Autosports here in Arlington for a quickey dyno run before I start the next round of upgrading and then head out to a local 8th mile track later that same day to get a close correlation between the two. I'll repeat the dyno run for the ignition upgrade and again head to the track the same day. I figure two dyno runs will be enough of a money drain on my refund, but I plan on beating up a buddy's 240 HP Prelude (complete with 5" monster tach...) and juice is the way to go until I work through sterling's carb treatise and take the dive later this summer. Nitrous is our friend, amigo!

ok, quick question. How bad does a streetport kill MPG?? I am in the mid 20's now around 25MPG and I like it, but am willing to sacrifice some. I know my car runs a little rich right know also.

I'm thinking about replacing the clutch in my 85 - what type do you recommend (least slippage)? What about the stock pressure plate? Is it sufficient for street racing?

My streetport got about 2 mileage points better than my stockport did. I switched to a higher-flowing (louder) exhaust at the same time so that may have something to do with it.

Peejay your car is tuned to perfection then...milage will go down. I had a streetport in a 12a and that really sucked gas...but then again there wasn't a day I wouldn't see 130mph!!! You can live with the streetport man...GO FOR IT. it's not that bad....unless you step on it. You can also use the stock carb although I recommend it jetted and milage is about the same unless you open those secondaries.

Anyone running N2O?

You can get a simple NX kit for a fuel injected system for around $700. Anyone tried this?

How about a holley kit on a holley carb'ed 12A or 13B?

At what point do you all think internal engine pieces will start to break?

BTW, you guys are gonna kill me, but I'm running stock exhaust on my street port 12A w/ RB holley carb kit and holley fuel system DOH! Got to save funds for a month or two for RB exhaust system and intake heat shield!

1/4mi. times: Best I ran in my 98 Mustang when it was stock was 14.9sec.!! What a dog. Ford put super-restrictive heads on the 96-98 GT's. I've yet to take the rx-7 to the track. It feels faster tho.

I do mostly highway driving. Also I excercised restraint in porting - I did not open up the runners at all, just re-shaped the port opening/closing areas. The torque of the engine was incredible - you could probably drive up the side of a building in 5th gear. I never had to downshift on the highway, ever - just toe in a little more throttle. (And it was "just a little 12A") But if I wanted, just drop down a couple cogs and let that sucker scream!

You're right the carb was tuned great - for highway driving. O2 readings were off the charts in the lean direction. Rotaries are perfectly happy running extremely lean under cruise conditions, just don't go so lean that you misfire. As soon as you toed in more throttle the mixtures would go to the rich side like they should. I'd like to say that it was due to my godlike tuning skills, but in reality it was a happy accident due to me running a ported manifold/engine/nice exhaust with a dead stock untouched carb. Sadly the carb was nowhere near big enough and it didn't make the power that it should have... but 25mpg is a nice thing to have when you drive 2000-3000 miles a month!

jeremy - that just looks like the normal ol' cover that somebody cut up and put hinges on

I might be selling the ported side housings, I dunno. (One rotor housing is scrap, and anyway is being used for EXPERIMENTAL purposes ) Looking back I think the low-end torque came from the small port runners I used in the intake manifold, and all the overlap I built in to the exhaust ports.

Before my 3rd gen 440 hp bullit, I had a 1 st gen. I had a streetported 13B, rb exhaust, holley 550 carb set up, lt weight flywheel and clutch package, rb springs, stock ignition, 3 core radiator, etc. The car ran a 13.6 @ 107. (Then I added a 150 Nos shot, but never ran it at the track.) I sold it to my friend and we put a 7 inch camden blower, 10 lbs pulley and a grant carb. (we will install the grant this weekend)...He is selling the 550 holley and intake..
