12A Turbo running poorly.

OK soo i got my baby back today and she RUNS!! but it runs very poorly.
The car has lots of power but stumbles and puts all over itself. It appears the car is running too rich , its timing is off and has massive vacuum leaks. It idles at 2000 rpm.

Timing: He has it retarded 3 degrees. The vacuum advances on the dizzy are just teed together and completely open , the hoses are connected to nothing.

Fuel: It has Delorto 40 DHLA one side is leaking a little bit of fuel. I

Vacuums: at the end of the waste gate there is place for a hose to go that supposed to connect to somewhere to detect a vacuum so it can open up but where?
The intake manifold has a hose that is plugged ( i think for a boost gauge)
and the turbo has a tee that is being plugged on top of it. I will post pics but until then does anyone have advice?

I will post them but I was just curious as to if anyone has any idea what the normal timing setting is for a turbo setup at about 10psi.

10 degrees total advance with a locked distributor is safe
2-4 degree split between leading and trailing
what spark plugs are you using? are you running any type of ignition amplifiers?

Ok i just realized that advancing the timing and retarding the degrees is the same thing..

I have no ignition amplifiers and a 100% stock dizzy. The spark plugs are awful auto lites they just came with the motor any certain plug I should get?

well, first you need to lock your dizzy since the centifical weights are advancing your timing 30 degrees wich is not good for any boosted application.. next, get some good spark plugs ngk
b9es, b9eg, b9egv . what ever you can get, any of those will work.. since you dont have any ignition amplifiers then you will need to close the gap up to keep the spark from going out under boost. gap the plugs to .015

when i said plug them i meant as it plug the lines with something not actually hook them up. I don't know where to hook them up. I don't think i need to since the dizzy will be locked and won't need vacuum advance.

I believe what you need to do is take that tee'd off vac line from the dizzy and hook it up to the left most vac port on the carb. You should see a bank of them on the driver side if you look under the air filter. Come to think of it, you probably have FI, and this is the fix for the nikki. But i don't know much about FI, so I dunno if I'll be much help.

Yeah she is a sexy beast. I will take pics today and post them. Its not FI.. I wish it was. Last night my Dad and I were adjusting the timing a little and we advanced it so it ran smoother but it still missed like crazy and it would still rev down really slow.

Well we were listening for vacuums through a tube we put to our ear and my carb has a MASSIVE vacuum leak after the throttle plates which explains why it idles at 2000 rpm.

projekt? did you read all this? crazy!. Erik, fix that vacuum leak, I hope you didnt pay this guy for anything other then parts, sounds like he did a hack job. For the wastegate, is there any lines going to it? There should be one line from either the intake or a boost controller used to open the gate as boost goes up. As for the line being teed off on the turbo, well, I dont know, dont know what line your talking about.

Here is the rest of the car.

EXHAUST stainless steel!! MAGNAFLOW
and 2.5 inch pipe all the way back with resonator.

rear rim shot.

full shot, notice front rims don't have center caps. The metal dust caps are too big in the front. I have to grind them down to make them fit. Also notice the brand new Firestone Fuzion HRIs << not that nice but they look good.

that's a nice set up, is that what's called a draw through set up? also, with that line, i believe you can just take the "t" off and just directly plug both of (whatever them things are called, bell looking things :P) to each other.

i like the way it looks, the only problem is i've never been crazy about not having an i/c. (i'm thinking about boosting mine, so i'm looking for ideas, i'll keep this in mind) about how much does it run to do a set up like this (not exact answers just ball park estimates if you don't mind me asking) i want to explore all my options before i make a move you know.

Well in this case I got a rebuilt motor for 500 and turbo kit for 600 so thats 1100. Then just getting new things like belts, radiator , waterpump etc. I would plan 3000 for a good reliable set up. More if you go blow through and fuel injected. That should be plenty to get it done. Im at about 2700 total and thats having a shop install the motor and kit. So its not too bad.

Also it not having intercooler doesn't seem to be posing a problem.

i know you won't believe me but when after the car runs for about 3 minutes and i turn it off , its carb is so cold it feels like ice and there is literally condensation on it but less than a foot away is a scalding hot turbo. Makes no sense to me.

I guess its cold cause fuel is naturally cold and a water line runs through the carb and massive amounts of air. Combined all these things have a great cooling affect and i don;t think i'll be having any heat issues.
