12a tranny into 13b gsl-se,will it fit

looking for someone whos done it or knows if it will work. also will a second generation tranny fit in it? I have a 85 GSL-SE 13-B 5 Speed manual tranny.

i hope so, i plan on using my 84's 12A tranny with the 85 SE motor going in it..

I was at speedway today & I saw a couple prospects,but a cm. could make for a bad day! I f I took mine out & set them side by side, I'd know.... but who wants to go threw all of that if you don't have to!

they should be the same length yes... i know my repu had a rx3sp transmission in it, then i went to a 79 tranny for a 12A no probs... went right in, even mounted exactly the same... i don't think there would be an issue, or if they even use a different tranny in the SE... i've been told by a friend u gotta bend ur 12A motor mount straight unless u got an SE mount...

i have a 85 tranny in my 84 gsl-se until i rebuild my se tranny very little diff 5th gear is diff but works fine

the tranny bolt pattern on the rear housing on these engines, whether 12a or 13b, r the same. the trannys themselves, however, differ over the years in shifter position and gear ratios. the SE trannys have a much higher 5th gear ratio than any of the other 1st gens. any tranny off a 12a from '81 to '85 will work in a GSL-SE. as for any tranny after '85, i can't be of much help since i personally haven't delt with them. i think u would have to use the bellhousing from the early rib case trannys to use a T2 tranny for ur application.
