Is it just me, or is there no air filter on that car? I mean, shouldnt it be on the turbo inlet? I was thinking it could be in that box before the air hits the injectors and what-not, but wouldnt you want the air filtered before it goes through your turbo and intercooler? Someone explain please :)...

PS - In this pic, you can see both the box Im talking about, and the front of the turbo, so you can see both of the places I think it could/would be...Personally I would run some cold air intake duct work up to the front to match all that other shiny duct work :).

REVHED 08-13-02 05:09 AM

Yeah, he probably just took it off while he's at the track. Not a very good idea IMO.

AJC13B 08-13-02 05:15 AM

Revhead and rotor - When you are making 500+hp and running low 10s using 25psi+, an airfilter has to flow a shitload and has to NOT get sucked into the turbo...

Most DONT flow air and some ENJOY getting sucked into a turbo... :D

I was just wondering, because one of the best carburated setups I have ever seen was on Carlos Gonzalez'z RX-3. He has a holley setup on a 13b-re and a Turbonetics T70 series Turbo with a Greddy Type-C wastegate. He's running alcohol and all he has is a street port!

8.435 seconds @ 157.45mph

You can reconize the cap, but it has been modded, you can see the beads of weld around the top and sides of it. But its polished! Too bad i cant post any pics. No scanner.

Good point. Thanks for clearing that up :).

So what was your question again?

 me me me! i was thinking hood too. if he does have a filter it is probably a cone and sits in front of the intercooler/radiator. that is where his piping disappears to.

That's my thoughts too. Less of the air flows backwards towards the BOV, which means less air has to change direction again when the throttle is re-opened.

Thats an amazing time! The fact its a 12A is even better!! But there are a few cars that will give the 10.19 a shake very soon :D

My car is having a much deserved rest :D Its also getting a new gearbox (the old one was knackered, the oil was black and couldnt get 1st gear! :D) and also a new twin plate (old one had blue plates and a buckled pressure plate) and once back together will be back on the street just taking it easy :D

Directfreak 08-13-02 06:18 PM

I am glad to hear she's going to take a break Steve. She's earned it.

I know there are cars faster that 10.19 out there, it's just that for a daily driver 12A, - it's pretty damn cool!

What!? Didn't you just put that trans in there a few months ago? Man you are hard on stuff..... Oh yeah, 10k clutch drops with slicks, heh, I supose that will do that ;)

MarkPerez 08-13-02 09:43 PM

It also looks like one could eat off of it too.. clean,,i don't
know about the location of the shifter though,,but thats just me.. I wonder just how much difference there is about the toyota - vs- mazda transmissions,,,if its gearing,or stronger innards and or case,or both..
I trip, that a toyota would bolt up,and the starter lines
up correct.

Actually they don't. There is an adapter plate used to mate them. Some of the adapters plates help put the tranny close to the stock location.

At the risk of pissing Moremazda off, you can also get fully cast and machined bellhousings to fit the Celica/Supra box on a rotary here in Aus. :D Apparently the boxes are quite strong and there's a good range of ratios available for them.

jeremy 08-14-02 12:44 AM

am i the only one who looks at that pic and out of everything notices the tree airfreshner?

OHHHHH.... have you smelled the "new car smell" tree air conditioner? It's great stuff... my friend has one in his '83 Buick Skylark.... the air freshener's worth about as much as the car...

My rex has 8 tree airfresheners in it, covering up the smell that 22 year old cars tend to get after sitting by a hay shed for a year... :D I'll look for a pic....

Jeff

Screw the tree... ya need the smiley face with requisite "X" plastic-tattooed (scratched and inked) on its forehead. :)

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...&postid=934718

(also note the shift knob position... it now has the stock knob sitting up about where the HVAC controls are :D )

peejay 08-14-02 04:02 AM

Here's a somewhat better one.... (note much better shifter placement relative to steering wheel)

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...&postid=934792

Keaponlaffen 08-14-02 03:25 PM

or you have to have the white fuzzy AIR FRESHENER dice :D

I have those in my truck :D

That's not bad at all, but the best carburated set-up I have seen at the track is Falito's '88 RX7 running 7.66 with weber with a 13b street ported engine, 18 lbs of boost, but he does get some juice, i think a 2 stage nos system. The one thing that I like about his car is that it idles stock and u can't even hear the car at the light.

Defprun 08-14-02 05:00 PM

Directfreak:

I think my question was where i could get that K&N intake cap....and it was awnsered...with where i can get it. After that i was just noting that this Drag Racer from the IDRC has a 9 second Rx-3 with the cap that i asked about wich is also on that black car.

Jrios:

7 seconds! Holy shit! 18 psi, HOLY SHIT!!!
