12A Runs 10.19 @132 Mph

I posted this in a reply to another post, but I think it deserves a thread in its own right.. :)

No 20B's for me. At least not for my FB. I just came from Day One of the Hurricane Nationals at Moroso Motorsports Park. This car belongs to my UPS Deliveryman. A Good Guy.

Looks Stock don’t it? It’s a GSL-SE with a 12A Engine!

10.19 @ 132.13 MPH with a 12A. Street Driven, Daily Driver.
Who Needs a 20B in the first Gen again?

It's not even Loud. This thing is not a sleeper, it is downright comatose. No One would EVER expect this thing to run as hard as it does.

jmseven 08-11-02 12:07 AM

Tight!!!

An old builder named "Jose" told me the 12a's can run. That certainly proves it.

Good post

jeremy 08-11-02 12:17 AM

damn that is sweet. and he has my old tach. i thought you had to have a cage running that fast?

Winnipeg85GSL 08-11-02 12:23 AM

Ya that'd be nuts .. .

" Hey look Billy Bob this ricer has M/T's hahahhahaha lets smoke him with our Camero."

SilverRocket 08-11-02 12:29 AM

Holy hell!!!!

That's more or less my definition of the perfect car.

REVHED 08-11-02 12:35 AM

Fucking nice mate...  :mspank:

Is the engine based on a 12AT block or n/a? I assume he has the low compression rotors at least? What porting does it have? What about the dizzy? Need details... :D

LOL Just noticed the interesting shifter location.

SilverRocket 08-11-02 12:42 AM

So much for the stereo!

Rotor13B 08-11-02 12:54 AM

What's that button on the steering wheel? Dare i say nitrous?

diabolical1 08-11-02 01:14 AM

moremazda 08-11-02 01:15 AM

Haha, that's alright, I was just about to mention that too, until I saw your post... you just beat me to it :D

Maybe I'm just a pessimist?

But hell yeah, nice ride.

Looks like he has a roll-over cage... look above and to the left of the driver's seat in this picture... see the extra bar? And look to the passenger's side, right under the hatch strut... looks like another bar under there too...

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...&postid=924496

Maybe turn up your brightness on your monitor?

Jeff

RotorMotorDriver 08-11-02 03:35 AM

Damn...I want a 12A turbo too...I was just talking aobut that. Anyone have any old parts they want to sell to me so I can built my own too? :)

~T.J.

RotorMotorDriver 08-11-02 03:38 AM

What kinda specs are on that? What kind of porting does it have? Turbo? Intercooler? Where did that throttle body come from?

~T.J.

Keaponlaffen 08-11-02 03:40 AM

That's funny, the MAP censor on the firewall looks identical to the one in my S10 :p:

Jeff

MikeLMR 08-11-02 05:26 AM

That car is really nice ... understated and clean ... I like it a lot :D

RotorMotorDriver ... I think he said in the text that its a TWM throttle body

Does anyone else think 1st gens look good without the rubberised (ughhhh) rear wing ?

and now you mention it I saw a japanese import 3rd gen which was a "touring" model ... came without a rear wing ... that looked really good too

LOL Just noticed the interesting shifter location.

12A Bridgeport (low idle of 1200RPM too) designed for Turbo application, (its all in the shape and position of the port). Stock Dizzy welded with no advance,

Haltech F9 controlling the fuel. - All the Differance.

BY THE WAY

The car used to run Low 11's exactly as it is, but with a Blow-Through Turbo Application.

Has a full cage, I am going back today, I will try to get more pics of this one. There are other 1st gens out there running 11's and 12's consistently.

Not to mention Peripheral Port RX'3 running all motor high 10's with full interior and untubbed.

MikeLMR 08-11-02 06:30 AM

Has a full cage,
its has a rear cage ... if those interior shots are from the same car therre should be the front legs of a full cage running down the a pillars if a full cage were fitted

Mike

Anyone notice the scatter blanket on the tranny?

Why 85 celica tranny, why datsun rear end? Just curious?

Defprun 08-11-02 09:53 AM

Sticking with my 12a was the plan all along and this gives me some inspiration. Although my real inspiration is a carburated turbocharged 13b that runs methanol...but I plan on doing the 12a version! WOO-HOO!

peejay 08-11-02 12:45 PM

Ok, I want to know what kind of timing he runs. Locked 10degBTDC leading probably? What about trailing? I could guess but I want to know :) :)

That's pretty much the setup I want to run were I to go turbo... bridgey 12A with a honkin' big turbo (Holset HX35W  ). I'd still run a carb though, EFI is too expensive for my tastes once you buy the injectors and fuel system and all that. Blowthrough carby you just need the special regulator and a good strong fuel pump, and of course tune the sucker :)

Mike: Yeah the factory style spoiler (it's not a wing) is rather tacked-on looking. They don't look too bad though if they're painted body color.

MarkPerez 08-11-02 01:15 PM

I love it !! 12a,,,, I have a friend who a few years back
used to be a rotor head, and he was telling me that a
12a is the shit vs a 13b, and about the size, shape, and position
of the ports too..12a bridgeport w/ EFI is very fast,
he says.Is there a secret templete for such porting ??
Did you know you ups guy had such a monster in his
pocket DF ?? Seeing those pics really gets the gears
turning upstairs,,,you know ??? What else ???
lightened rotors ,? cross drilled E shaft, for better oiling ?
Are the rear tires ,M&H racemasters(mini)with pizza cutters up front ? When the car launches what happens?
hooks up,,? pulls the wheel(s) ,?? goes up in smoke,??
I've got tons to ask still,,,later,, all that and its quite too
awesome...he did it RIGHT, and droped the blow through.

I was thinking about getting a stock looking fibreglass one to stick on mine ...they are a little bit expensive though :( ... If the hadn't screwed the damn thing to the car at either end I think i;d of taken it off by now ... still it drops the drag a little so as long as it servers a function it can stay ( its good for putting stuff on while you open the rear hatch too :) )

MIKE-P-28 08-12-02 08:35 AM

I just noticed something else, on some of his stainless lines he has hydraulic band clamps :) I got some of them on my oil cooler lines, wasnt real happy about them, but they hold I guess...

He didn't go on Sunday, but I will be in contact with him soon for more details of his set-up. He has been delivering parts for me and saw my car - He really liked it. We talked about his, and that he has a 10 second 12A, - (and I didn't believe it, but smiled and agreed). He told me the shop that did it with him is only a mile away from me, yada, yada, yada.

Stock 12A Rotors. The Car Hooks up awesome, Less than 1/4 turn wheelspin. BTW, the guy can drive very well. He even drove his friends 10 second 1981 Toyota Corlolla (4 cylinder Turbo, daily driver) for him as well.

They did do a VERY clean install. I am going to hook up with him about the Fuel Delivery, which is my only part that I am still not 100% sure of.

Well on his last run, he blew an oil hose to the Turbo, luckily no harm was done. He still managed a 10.28 on that run. He didn't go on Sunday, but I will be in contact with him soon for more details of his set-up.

MIKE-P-28 08-12-02 09:58 AM

Oh that makes me feel better , thanks a lot Alex :) LOL

MikeLMR 08-12-02 10:10 AM

A Sloppy 12A Turbo (blow through Holley)) install. It was still good for Mid 12's on a bridged motor. He has run High 10's with the Juice.

I posted in the lounge that I need a place to host pics, I have about a hundred of various cars, many rotary.

This one was gorgeous. 12.58 in the 1/4. Quiet as HELL. Pulled really hard on 2nd and third gear.

jrios 08-12-02 11:20 AM

i seen that car run b4 at lakeland 1/8...i think he was running 6.4-6.5 at the time...Kilo racing once had a '71 Datsun with a bridgeported 12a engine with nos and i think he made it to 5.9 in the 8th...i seen him beat a lot of 13b's with the same set-up...that shows that you can do a lot with a 12a

rx7gslse 08-12-02 11:21 AM

hmm... what size wheels/tires are on that black one...

and what's under the hood to make it go 12's?

He wasn't very friendly, and never lifted his hood.

I guess he was a "player-hater" :)

jeremy 08-12-02 12:07 PM

looks like a set of weds. can't see the center cap to well though.

Manntis 08-12-02 01:05 PM

Still wondering why the tranny swap - and which Datsun rear end? 240z for the IRS? 280ZX with squat-prone but easier to mount trailing arms?

What, he's afraid people will know what makes his car run 12's?

I see too many 9/10/11 second street cars to consider 12's to be very quick :)

now, to get my goddam truck running.... no fuel :( injector's good, ECM's good, TPS is good, MAP is good, Idle air sensor or whatever it's called is good... but the INJECTOR won't spray unless I ground it out

Oh well... this IS a rotary forum, so I won't ask for help here :p:
