12A Metering Oil Pump
12A Metering Oil Pump
I have an oil leak and I suspect it is coming from the metering oil pump. It is flowing onto the thermal reactor and smoking really bad. A few weeks ago I had the hoses off, so it may just be that.
I took off the hoses, tried to clean them out, and they are hard to blow through. Is this normal or should more flow through? I am also having a very hard time finding some new spring hose clamps.
After adjusting the control arm and reassembling, I decided to measure the oil output volume. After waiting for 5 minutes or more at various RPMs, no oil came out. Does it take a few minutes to start pumping oil?
Also, where exactly is the oil output adjustment on the pump? I may need to adjust.
Thanks guys, just waiting to come across a 13B Turbo and trans!

Click on 'Facts' and there is a really good section on the OMP.
I think what you're experiencing is a common failure. They either seize open or closed, or they start to leak.
PS - If your OMP isn't pumping oil, I hope you're premixing. Cause if not, you might need that 13B sooner that you think!!

You want about 4-6 oz per tank. Use MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) if you can find it. It comes in a red bottle in the fuel additive section of automotive stores. If you can't find it then a good pre-mix synthetic for water cooled engines.
Hell adding MMO isn't a bad idea even if your OMP works.

Hey, like I said my OMP works and I haven't done this, but I don't think you should use synthetic oil as a premix, because it doesn't burn cleanly. I'd just go with the regular stuff.
I do add a bottle of MMO in with the gas every once in a while though

Silver,
I think you misunderstood me. There are Sythetic pre-mix oils designed to burn cleanly. They're designed for things like snowmobiles, jetskis, etc. In fact most of 'em burn cleaner than fosil oils.
Also, you don't need a full bottle of MMO for a tank (tho it won't hurt). I use roughly half a bottle in each tank, although about once a month I use a full bottle.

Upon further investigation I discovered that it is pumping, but I don't think it is pumping enough. It still leaks so I just went and pulled one from a junk '85, I figure I'll just throw that in and try to get a good hose connection. Those skimpy spring clamps are pathetic! Also, where exactly is the output adjustment? Sources say "on the omp/lever." The only thing I see is a nut that looks like it holds the lever on. Man!

Sorry, guess I read your post a little hastily.
