12a idle problem

I have a 1981 's that runs great. Did a compression test and got 100psi on both rotors. Previous owner did an emissions delete which consisted of pulling everything off and plugging most of it. I have no idea if everything is correct.

My problem is it has some idle problems. On a cold start I have to keep it revved for a minute until it will idle on its own. It has a bit of a miss or something once it is idling. It is just a shake every 2 seconds or so but enough to be noticable. When choked it idles terribly rough. On decel there is backfire and the carb makes 2 or 3 honking/sucking noises from what I think is the anti afterburn valve.

Is there anything that would cause all of this? I don't even know where to start.

So it's running great? Couldn't resist.

You'll need to go back through the rat's nest and everything the previous owner did to ensure it was done correctly or put it all back.

That's especially funny after reading the "you might own a first gen if..." posts.

I planned on it eventually. Also it bucks in 1st and 2nd at about 3000rpm

Since things have been messed with, this is one of those times it's really hard to troubleshoot without know everything that was done. Best to go back through each part to make it right.

Alright I guess that's just what I'll do. Where is the best guide to go through the rats best removal?

In the FAQ's.

Also check for vacuum leaks. A poor rats nest removal might mean some vacuum leaks.
