12a engines
i am prety sure somone has already posted stuff about these engines but for some reason search was not working for me so i was wondering if anyone could possibly give me a bit on insight on the engines or where i could find some info on the 12a engine (stock in my 1980 rx7) .
okay ... maintenance info. well, it's easier for me to shoot from the head than to go find the threads right now, but i'm there has to be a few threads that will give you some good info.
well, just change your oil every 2500 to 3000 miles. use your climate as a guide for the weight you choose. don't use single weight oils, and don't use synthetics. do the filter with every oil change.
change the antifreeze once every 2 years. don't EVER mix green and orange. water pump and thermostat, roughly every 60K miles - but change the hoses when you do the pump. have the radiator checked and cleaned periodically.
i usually tuneup my car once a year (usually early spring) cap, rotor, plugs, gas filter, air filter. your plugs may require changing in between tuneups depending on things like how you drive, your timing, etc.
tranny and rear end oil - definitely use synthetic.
when it comes to oil filters and thermostats, use MAZDA parts.
check your brakes every year, and change the fluid maybe every 2 years. how much rain do you get in Nanaimo?
things that are not NECESSARY but would be money well spent and good for reliability and safety:
- stainless steel/Teflon brake lines
- '81-'85 distributor
- washable type air filter (e.g K&N) and you may also consider getting an '81-'85 filter canister, and trimming it while you're at it.
- Redline Water Wetter
i'm sure there is other stuff to be added, and i if i can think of anything, then i will add it. hope this helps.
