12A BP noise and power

What would the noise be in dB-A for a BP(no J-port).

And what would the power be if you want a more silent car?

With silent I mean that you can't be heard from 2 blocks away. It can be a bit louder that a normal car.

I live in the City and it's really packed so I can't afford to have a really really loud car while driving at night.

If you want maximum power out of a BP the exhaust has to be very free flowing ie. LOUD. You can get the exhaust down to acceptable noise levels but it won't perform as well.

What kind of power would I have with a not so loud BP 12A engine?

Is it worth having a quiet BP 12A or would it be better if I had a SP?

I had the same debate with myself when getting ready to have the engine rebuilt. If the car is daily driven like mine, you'd be much better off with a large SP. If it isn't and emmissions are not an issue, go BP and find a damn fine highflow muffler (heard good things about Dynomax). Also keep in mind that with a BP you'll be lucky to get 30k out of the engine.

Please tell me why you think a bridge-port will last only 30km. Carbon apex seals generally need replacing at around 50k but with steal seals the engine can last way longer depending on how hard it's driven.

Howmuch HP would I have with a quiet 12A BP? Is it more than with a big ST? Numbers would be nice.

A True bridgeport needs to go into the rotor-housing to develop true bridgeport power. Again, on a true bridge you have to modify the water jacket/seal, and it will break down eventually.

I would go with a large Street-port, headers, a straight pipe, and a Primaflow muffler. Looks stock, sounds nice at idle (like stock), and will flow nicely, without you wondering when the time bomb will finally go off.

You get some lava rocks, a muffler with the a straight through design (the kind with the vented pipe going through it.) You cut a square hole in it. Fill the gap around the vented pipe with lava rocks, and weld the hole shot with a larger piece then what you cut out so you don't get a exhaust leak. The rocks are light, you still have a straight through muffler, and it will muffler the sound drastically. Cheap, easy, and effective.

This isn't true. Yes, you do need to notch the rotor housing for it to flow properly but it doesn't generally go into the water jacket unless it's a j-port.

Exactly. This is how I made mine. ..Standard bridgeport and matched rotor housings. Cut ~1mm shy of the water jacket to keep it intact. Both for the rotor housing match and sideplates too. The transition is most important.

I really hate when people confuse bridgeports and J-ports too. They should call them modified water jacket ports and standard bridgeports for ones that do not compromise the jacket.

So anyone who reads this, anything that cuts a waterjacket is NOT a standard full bridgeport. Its a J-port with cut waterjackets...and state that!

Well Excuuuuuuuse me!

Sorry guys, All the Bridgeports I have ever seen and experienced have had the water jacket modifed.

I have heard of "J" port but I guess I have confused that with the "monster bridge".

Sterling, are you serious? Are you just tryng extra hard to be an ***? I considered you to be a positive contributor to this forum, but you need to take a prozac.

I take it you didn't see the WINK at my previous post?

Dude, go get laid and release that built up ****. Even if you legitimately disagree with something I state online, you could post an adult counter response and not have a hissy fit. Personally, I think your "junkyard blower" idea sucks, but you don't see me trashing it online.

If you have nothing good to say, then keep your comments to yourself.

Yeah Guy, I AM totally kidding. After the "Jack ****" family album post and the whole "Gerbils in yer ***" thing, I had you pegged as someone with a real sense of humour.
Sorry... I just thought it would be funny to kind of stalk you, as you are one of those guys that hardly EVER has anything negative to say, which makes you a most unlikely candidate for getting "cyber-screamed" at. Plus I thought we were cool.

It really was all in fun.

OOOHHHHHHHH.... Sorry dude, I didn't get it.

Usually I pick up on that **** right away, but since it was directed at me I kinda lost site the humor.

No problem, No foul. Actually the Junkyard blower is a great idea - in theory. As you stated before, I am a Turbo-Freak so I am biased. Actually I do love superchargers on torquey V8's, and want to put one on my Ford Screw eventually. Hopefully your project will work out, and I will happily eat my words. Nothing like cheap horsepower to put a smile on one's face .

We're cool.

I believe that's the Camden kit. Purdy. Though I've bashed the kit due to its exorbanent cost, I doubt my "junkyard dawg"'ll ever look that nice! It had better outperform the camden for how ugly it'll be!

Glad we're cool.
