12A AC idle speed compensator

I noticed that the vacuum pipe coming out the bottom of the AC idle speed compenstor adjustment has no vacuum line attached. I cannot find any dangling vacuum hoses. Where is this suppose to connect to? Anyone have a picture that shows this?

No wonder the idle speed adjust is having no effect.

Yes, the AC is working at the moment. That is why I am trying to get the idle compenstor to work.

the vacuum line compensate for load, so when your ac kicks on with other accessories already on your engine doesn't bogggggggggg.

Yeah, I know what it is suppose to do.

The problem is that the vacuum pipe on the back of the adjust is not connected to anything. I cannot figure out what it is suppose to attach to.

The hose from the throttle opener for the AC goes to a solenoid in the rats nest, the one with white dot on it.
Here is a pic of the throttle opener, in the upper right of pic, Disregard the blue circled shutter valve.

edit, well something is wrong with my PC, its not posting the pics as Iv'e changed them.
Anyway, it's the black mushroom looking thing in the upper right of the pic, and the hose connects to the top.

OK. Stevan's picture is getting me cloe. I see the vacuum hose coming out of the bottom of the AC idel compenstor. Where does it go to?

On my car the hose from the AC selenoid (white dot) is running into the top of the AC idle compensator. This seems correct.

I took that stuff off. The thing on the carb. Is my a/c going to effect my engine performance? Whats the worst that can happen?

OK. It sounds like the vacuum from the selenoid to the top of the AC idel compensator is correct. The question is the vacuum line coming out of the bottom of the AC idel compensator, where does it go?

The throttle opener for the AC, and the idle compensator are 2 different things.
The idle compensator is in the bottom of the air cleaner, it may, or may not have something to do with your problem as it is mentioned in the haynes manual throttle opener check on page 265.
I don't have mine hooked up, my rats nest is gone, I do have the AC solenoid and the throttle opener connected and it works.
The idle compensator does have a hose going from the bottom to the rats nest somwhere.
The throttle opener does not have a hose from the bottom, only a metal shaft with a bend on the end to pull open the throttle.

Yeah what he says. A bit of a nomenclature problem. Calling the throtle opener an idle compensator - even though in a way that's what it does - mixes it with the idle compensator, which like Stevan says is in the bottom of the air cleaner, and it's supposed to keep the idle constant with temperature change. You can see in the diagram posted by GavinJuice where does the hose that comes out of the idle compensator go in the rat's nest.

Thumbs up

Hey, thanks guys. I'll take another look at the bottom of the throttle opener. I see the curved piece. I thought it was a vacuum pipe. So apparently it has some how come unhooked from the throttle mechanism.

Sorry for the naming convention prblem.

Talking

Bingo...

The collective wisdom solved my problem. The curved piece on the bottom of the throttle opener was rotated 90'. As a result it was no engaging the throttle mechanism. I rotated it back in position to engage the throttle and now the idle increases when the AC is turned on.

Thanks.
