12A to 13B Engine Swap
Could anyone tell me the how hard it would be and whereabouts of a good guide to swap the motor on my 84GSL. I just bought a second RX-7 with an excelent motor and can't wait to put it on if possible.

Well, searching for threads will help a lot. It was covered many times before, but I'll give the small details that I know of since I'm doing the same thing.
Depending on what series the motor is, the swap will be different.
Many will say that you will need a GSL-SE oil pan, which is required, and the GSL-SE front cover. The only difference I've seen on the -se and other 1st gen front covers is the area where the omp is. But I got a -se front cover anyways, just to be safe. Thats basically the basics on just having the motor sit in the engine bay. By doing a search, youll get more of the specifics.

Buying new motor mounts arn't needed. The stock ones work fine, just make sure you have the proper engine mount plate. The SA one that I had didn't work so I got on from a later model and my S5 sits perfectly inside the engine bay.

The actual mouting process is easy, you just need a gsl-se oil pan and a 1st gen front cover (gsl-se front cover will allow you to use a S4 omp if you didnt want to premix), then you can either mod the mounting plate to match the 12a motor mounts, or you can get the racing beat mount which you just bolt on and then drop it in. Depending on the year of the 13b motor, you may need a new fuel pump and lines. Wiring will be different for each series motor as well, do some searching and get the factory service manuals, you can find them with a search as well.

Read through the FAQs and archives on TII swaps. That will cover most of what you need to know. Next step is deciding on keeping the FI or going carb. Keeping the FI is much easier if you start with a GSL-SE based 1st gen. In fact, the entire swap is easier on an SE, carb or FI.
