1-4 psi or 4.5-9 psi regulator?

well, which one do i need?

i have a holley regulator now, i dont know which one it is.... it's a dell'orto 48dhla with a carter pump....

i'm guessing the 1-4psi one, cause i keep hearing that anything much more than 4 is way too much for a dell'orto/weber.

help me out.

Well, what fuel pressure do you run at now? I would use that a starting base for the decision. Also, have you read Paul Yaws article about the fuel pressure gauges?

i have no idea what pressure i'm at...the car is new to me, and new to anything thats not a q-jet or holley 4 barrel, and i have no idea what pressure range i should start tuning this carb at. i'm in the process of trying to order one of yaw's gauges right now. (yes i read the article)

that is all.

Yaw's fuel pressure guages are the best because they are made specifically for rotaries and their low pressure. you can see EXACTLY what pressure your running to the nearest 1/10 or something, instead of a summit guage or holley guage where the range is like 1-20 and the numbers are real small

yes, i know that.... i'm getting the yaw gauge.

so i guess that all means that i need the 1-4psi regulator, as the gauge is only 0-5psi anyway....?

anyone wanna give me a ballpark fuel pressure to start with?

I think that the 1 to 4 is the way to go. It allows you to adjust accurately in the range they you will want for a Dellorto. I run 3 PSI and I like it, if I run more I get backfires when I shut the car down.

thank you, finally someone is willing to give up a fuel pressure.

so the 1-4 regulator is the one to get, and i'll check to see if that's the one that i have when my pump and gauge get here... if Yaw wants to ever respond and let me place an order.

the only problem is... and theres no real way around it cuz regulators are cheap.... the regulators run at such a low pressure (my dad ran even lower than 3 i believe, shh im not supposed to say that) that they often fail. but there pretty cheap to replace. the one on the race car last season crapped out and had it running at like 1.75, we were wondering if it did any damage after the session, luckily not. just check the pressure once in a while to make sure it didnt malfunction and lean out. it shouldnt be a problem running at 3 or 4 tho.

yeah, i'll be checking it every few days, if not every day because i'm still unsure about this motor, and what it may and may not be doing. I hope there's a local place that will have the holley regulator, if not, i guess i can have my parts guy order it and have it in stock.

goal is to have her on the road by the end of next weekend (the exhaust comes friday) only problem is, i have no confidence that i can get my yaw pressure gauge by then.

Where do you keep getting this idea that rotaries need low pressure? The pressure depends on whatever your carb setup is designed to run at. I'm running about 5psi on my IDA Weber and Holley's run about 6psi.

BTW jutny, if you find 1-4psi isn't enough you don't have to replace the regulator. You can just swap the spring inside as that's the only difference between the two regulators.

You can buy the spring kit from Holly to change the regulator to fit your needs.

Yaw does great work, but is impossible to get in touch with. I have never gotten a reply from and email, letter, or phone call.

I have a Holly gauge, whiich I got from a friend who was using it until he got a Yaw guage. He said that they read the same.

So, if you can't get in touch with yaw, get a Holly gauge and us it till you do get the Yaw gauge.

Good luck to you!

lol Why do you think I'm offended? I was simply pointing out that what you have stated (a number of times BTW) is incorrect.

Jeeze.

REVHED is right.

Jutny, I sent you a private message.

The proper regulator is the Holley 4.5-9 psi, as the Racing Beat specified FP is 4.5 psi.

As well, you don't need a FP guage to tune, refer to my PM.

Peace.

i know that..... i missed the part about the dellorto, and i was in a mad mood im sorry. i thought he had the STOCK carb on, which would make the 1-4 regulator the one to use, am i wrong about that? i know what i said is wrong considering he has a dellorto, i just didnt read and made a mistake.

im sorry for flippin on on you revhed, and silverrocket and error and whoever else.

but seriously, i wanna know.... for the STOCK carb (i know, off topic, but this thread is old anyway), would the proper regulator to use not be the 1-4??

No need to apologize.
