Given a hp and weight there is no trouble in predicting a 1/4 time, with header/exhaust you would be low 16s, Without porting and lots of bolts you should get 15seconds plus or minus depending on your skills.

Going NO2 is a different matter, a rule of them is a well set up system will knock 3 seconds off your time. Unless of course you are using an old engine when your time will be infinity, it won't last the distance!!!

actually, that kinda sucks... my friend's 1986 Subaru GL had a faster 1/4 mile time than that stock.... now it doesn't... after 340,000kms, it's running on 2/4 cylinders, and when it backfires, it loses all power, and he has to re-start it after sitting for about 5 mins...

Stock 12a engined RX-7 has a 1/4 time of 17-17.4 seconds depending on the model, newer equalled slower due to weight.

Forum General Automotive has a sticky on performance data which lists the 1/4 time of practically every car sold in the USA over the past decade. Informative reading.

Just outta curiousity, what speeds are you hitting at the 1/4? I have always looked at 0 to 60, and never wondered about the 1/4. I know stock 84 and 85 with 12 a is like 10.5 and 13b is like 8.5. Stock 83 and lower with 12a is like 8.5. (400 lb difference to account for)

Stock 12a 17.2 secis hitting about 78 mph terminal
With headers the time is about 16.3 terminal 83 mph
With headers and mod carb 15.1 seconds and 90 mph
streetport the time will be about 14.2 sec and 96 mph
Go stock turbo 13.5 seconds and 100 mph
stock turbo and street port 13sec and 105 mph

going with the bigboys 11sec and125 mph
going with the big men 8 sec and 165 mph

Figures are an indication, everyone on the forum will say they can do better with a good launch!!

2.4sec seems like a pretty high 60' time. what kind of tires? how are you launching it? Try to get that under 2sec if possible on your tires.

took the g-tech out last night. only got one run since i crunched 3rd on the first and had to change locations. my 1st real and only run gave me a 17.14@83.4. now remember its a g-tech so the mph will be higher then a track. i was running to high of rear tire pressure as i barked 3rd gear and i'm a stock 79 12a with sumitomos. the run was sans spare and jack but with a 98 lb passenger and at night so i had the airbrakes up. i figure a little adjustment on tire pressures, a little more seat time, and just me in the daytime, i should be able to hit 17 or possibly a high 16. still dissappointing after coming from a wrx and a 14.6 quarter.

I hit 15.7 @ 87mph with stock carb (other than unnecessary **** pulled off it and secondary spring cut down), emissions removal, RB short primary exhaust, e-fan, and 2 degree timing advance. My 60 foot times were usually in the 2.2-2.3 area. I haven't been to the track since my last major changes, but I'm anticipating much better times.

Now you're talking my kinda cars!

I doubt that it'd be faster though... less power and more weight! My GL took a solid 16-18 seconds to get up to 60.

That all depends on how much nitrous you use and when you set the system to start.

Someone who only gets on the bottle at the top of 3rd is going to have much different results than someone who starts spraying at the launch.

onepointone- my estimate would be around 16.5 seconds for the 1/4 mile, plus or minus .2 seconds depending on how well you launch and the general tune of the car.

well what about with an auto, are my times going to be slower than these listed?? they already are, i'm not sure what the cause is however, my 0-60 on the gtech is only 13 seconds and my quarter was 20 flat at 73mph...i noticed that my air filter needs changing, what difference would it make after i changed it?

An auto in good condition should get through the !/4 in 17.5-17.7 seconds. Any improvement to air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs will make you faster, but how much will depend on why bad it is now. 20 seconds is real slow so most likely you have a multitude of problems- but start with air, fuel, spark and prayers.

Sweet cars, last forever, go anywhere

Only problem is that you can't put the jack in it, it falls through, the engine barely runs, etc, but it's still a great car.

But yeah, I read online that a stock, new Subaru GL from the 80's had around a 16.7-17.2 second quarter

Must have been a 5-speed 2-wheel-drive 3-door with no air conditioning or power steering
