*Sneak Peak* @ my cover car - a few audio teasers
I got a bunch of p.m.'s when I mentioned I was trying to make a cover worth car for that new rotary magazine.
So heres some teasers of the audio installation.
The interior is not as bad as it looks in some of the pics , its mainly left over carpet from the rear hatch and some wires, I also removed the seats for better access while building the box.
The box is fiberglass and 3/4 mdf with molded in 6x9 boxes.
Hard to see in some of the pics but I got a couple angles.
Enjoy.

looks great!....my old system utilized the entire rear as well, except i used 4 12" subs.
this time around, i plan on running 3 10" in the storage area, and 4 15" in the rear. yeah i know its alot, but i really like bass.
what's the deal (specs, etc) with those amps you have there (if they are amps) on either sisde of the sub?
great work by the way, i love it. only thing i don't like is the use of 6x9's...i'd rather go with component speakers, but that's just me.
keep up the good work, and keep us posted...

Nice work man, I love the setup. I was planning on taking out my storage bins, and fab something in the back to house my 2 12" Infinity's. I still need to get the CD deck and other 4 speakers I have in mind, but I need to buy a new Carb and full suspension.

Nice work, I don't like the 6x9's in the back, or any highs for that matter.
but still nice lookin, good layout. is it removable for the spare or is it gone.

Lanzar huh....if you went through all the effort of doing that sweet box I would have put a Kicker Solo baric or JL sub in the back. Could u give an estimate of how mcuh it weighs?

I like the hardwork you put into it bro. Nice work and man, it have been the first Rx7 that I have seen a cool system setup. At least I can't remember one right now.

Looking good. What kinda power distribution are you running? Meaning how is the power getting from the battery to those amps? 0 gauge to 4 gauge block, or just two 4 gauge outputs or what? What are the specs on that system? Two caps instantly tells me that it should be around a couple thousand watts total power. I also didnt see the remote leads for those amps, or power going to the caps, is the system working at all yet?

The amp for the sub is a 980x2 and the 4 channel for the front and rears is a 960x4
The 980x2 is louder and cleaner sounding then my last Rockford Fosgate 900.2
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1069301995330
The speaker is the best bang for the buck 15" I could find and I had a couple 12" of these before and was actually a little impressed for the price . The 15" is something like 1200watt and dual voice coil so I can still run the 980x2 @ 2 ohm.
The 6x9's are in boxes which make a HUGE difference on SQ and bass response. In boxes they will be midrange only ( also because the 960x4 has some really good built in crossover features.) Check some 6x9's freeair trunk style then throw them in boxes and you will hear the bass curve switch dramatically to mid range punchy bass from that big boom muddy bass.

Oooh quick with the wires huhe.
Theres a gold block hidden in the box that takes the 0 gauge input and converts it to 5 4agu outputs.
I have 1 4agu to each amp which should be more then big enough since where talking a stretch of only about 12" of wire until its back to 0agu.
The last spot on the block I used for the power antenna main power.
The caps will be on the same block and also using 4 agu wires. They are 1.5 farad a piece with monitor tops. www.etronics.com has these mis marked as 1 farad so there real cheap right now, you can tell what they really are by the model number, and when you get them in the mail and they say 1.5 farad.
I have the caps wired but I need to pull them up through the box, you will see nuthing is bolted down because I was done yet when I took the pics.
The remote wire still needs to be ran and distributed. I didnt do this for who knows why when I ran the rest of the wires. I think I was thiking of using the built in remote thats in the rca's then I stopped and said "wtf am I smoking".
I need more ground wire too, I only got about 3 feet left which wont be enough so Im gonna order up about 10 feet so it all matches.
I just posted the specs in my last post or the one before.

Yeah there rated @ peak if you mean the amps.
But trust me when i say its as if there rated rms because of how clean and solid the wattage is on these.
Wont be DB drag racing anytime soon, Going more for budget SQ over DB

In Summary:
Props on the work put into it. At least you finished your install. My sub boxes
never got covered with carpet or paint or anything. Budget is the correct word for your system indeed. Lanzar is very economical as well as Kove. But you're not going to get as good sound as even a middle range brand like Pioneer or Alpine. Good luck getting in a magazine. It probably won't be as hard getting in RX Tuner since it's a small publication compared to Car Audio & Electronics and Mobile Electronics. Keep up the good work. You should think about getting the MECP study guide and get certified to install. The book is only approx. $25 on amazon IIRC and will grow your knowledge by alot. Very helpful if you don't get confused with their unnecessarily technical babble. Some progress pics would be great if you have any. Progress pics are more interesting to me than the final product.
P.S. Just in case you are wondering what kind of experience I have in order to say all this... I've been installing my own **** for years, went to a mobile electronics install school in Oklahoma City (Acoustic Edge Institute), got certified (97% on the test), and worked at the best shop in Oklahoma (Car Toys Tulsa at 68th and Memorial) with one of the top 12 installers in the world (Steve Chambers). My uncle also has an award winning '69 VW Beetle show car with a SQ setup in it I learned a few things from.

I like it! I like the stealth look, covering up all the amps would clean it up. But hey, I love stereos. My back is taken up just as much as yours. I put my caps in the storage bin, no need to show them off. Any SPL readings yet. I hit 142db with my 15" in a 1.8cuft enclosure. I have an JBL GTS600 running stereo at 2 ohms, so it's seeing 300 or so to each voice coil.
P.S., get that back window tinted real soon.

My old 380.2 is louder then my friends brand new 600 watt fosgate amp, same size and weight also, go figure.

Budget SQ is when I can hear everything level, right from the highest highs to the punchy mid bass and even down to the chest rattling lows, Budget SQ is when you can listen to everything from rap to country and it all sounds good.

I wanted to keep everything out because the actual owner (not me) wants them.
Im building the car for a guy out on the west side of the state from the ground up, you should see the underbody, looks like it just came off the line.
I was going to flush mount everything but it would eat up too much of my air space inside the box, then I was thinking something crazy fiberglass like yours but the owner didnt like the idea of a high box that may comprimise the rear view ? got me I just wanna get it done already, Im 2 years in on it now.

Make sure you over guage your wiring. Never ever compromise with too small guage wiring even if it's for short distances. You need to check a chart that shows you what guage you need for the amount of power and length. What's wrong with the remote wire in the RCAs? We used it whenever it was in the wiring kits that the customers purchased at my shop. If it needs to be longer you just solder on some more. Make sure you remove paint where you ground, use the same ground spot for everything, use a bolt/nut combo if possible to get more contact, and always solder your power and ground connectors.
There is no such thing as budget SQ. SQ is always expensive. If you think you're going for budget you're really just going for mediocre. If you want SQ you go for Focal speakers and Audison amps. Best sound quality I've ever heard and it will cost you more than a second gen. But it's so worth it.
